Was in town for the Football game. After the game went back to hotel to take nap and when I woke up it was a little later in the evening and it seemed as if everything in this area closes early. Saw that this place closed at 9 so was like let’s check it out. When I pulled up should have went with my gut feeling because there was only like four cars there. But We were like we wanted some southern cooking and they was the only ones open. First off we come in and no greeting or welcome to Lizard’s Thicket. The gentleman running the register was very rude. I was like this is my first time here and was just wondering what was best. Then he was like if you dining in go find a seat and someone will be with you. The waiter seemed to be very tired and forgetting what she had going on. She was trying her best to keep it coming even with her being the only person serving. We were sitting close to where you can hear everything from the kitchen and all you would keep hearing is a microwave go on and off and then food come out. They were not making any of the food it was as of this had been cooked all day and they just warmed it in the microwave. You can taste when something has come out the microwave because if you cook it to long it get a different feel to it. So I had the fried pork chops, cabbage, fried okra, cornbread dressing, and a bowl of beef stew. The fried Okra was the only thing that tasted close to being fresh. Even the bread they brought out was microwaved to be warm. My friend had the fried pork chop, corn bread dressing, fried okra, and rice and gravy. The rice was still cold as if they didn’t warm it up enough and the corn bread dressing was dry and the pork chop was really bad. Like it had beeen sitting all day. When we asked for the check the waiter was like do you want to go boxes. We were like no we just want the check. It was so bad didn’t want to even see them try to fix it. The only reason they even got the two stars is because the waitress was trying even though she was alone. Trust me if you looking for some good southern food and in the west Charleston area this is not the place...
Read moreMy reviews are from a personal and professional perspective. Yes, I am an experienced & educated (Culinary) Chefs Assistant and a long time healthcare worker. My hopes are that reviews assist owners and operators with the quality of their business, customer, and food service and hire more qualified food management. Stop throwing management in the kitchen who tolerate anything and are not educated. It is a matter of life & death. It is truly not safe to dine out much anymore. The letter on the door means nothing. At least at Waffle House (open kitchens) you can see food handling and the floor, etc. Otherwise, we are fully TRUSTing that back staff practice good sanitation. I have been to "hole in the wall" or very small restaurants or diners and can see the lengths staff go through to ensure that food is properly stored, prepared, and/or served. At Lizard Thicket, employees (3) at the register/counter, including a manager were eating from the time we walked in the door to more than half way through our meals. Now maybe they didn't get a break or maybe they were slammed. (Idk). I had trouble eating although my food was okay. All I could think of was their fingers touching their mouths, food, cups, peoples receipts, money, then touching my receipt, money or card, etc. Talking about queasy! I asked the young lady to use a little sanitizer first, she did but put it all over the receipt and card. It is not her fault that she doesn't know that the sanitizer doesn't work if it's not dry. 🤔...
Read moreI'm so unhappy with the meal and the service and the whole thing at Lizard's Thicket and Lexington my waitress was Marilyn we asked her for cornbread and rolls she came back with two saucers with one roll on each saucer and then at when I told her I wanted cornbread she took back the only single roll not to mention I got a third of the portion of beef stew that any other Lizard's Thicket store usually serves and I got half of the cornbread dressing serving that they usually serve my husband's played on the other hand was overflowing now my mind was extremely empty I'm talking to half plate empty when it was served to me not to mention it was cold I would give this Lizard's Thicket -5 Stars if it were possible I will never go there again and it's not like it was lunch rush or dinner rush it was 8: 30 p. M. I understand coming into a restaurant late as frustrating for the cook and the waitresses and stuff but that's their job and also the cashier didn't even ask how the meal was when my husband went up there because my husband was wanting him to ask that so he could tell him about all the things that you know went wrong, we never even got asked if we needed anything once by the waitress or any other staff when I tried to ask her to go cup I got it Nord and walked away from I will never...
