I used to be a regular at Sam Halal’s. It was my go-to for a late-night bite—reliable, comforting, familiar. But after what happened one night, several months ago I can’t in good conscience continue supporting this place, and I believe others deserve to know why.
During a casual conversation, the owner—who I assume is Sam—used the N-word in convo with me. When I calmly told him that was completely inappropriate and offensive, he laughed and said, “Oh really?”—as if he genuinely didn’t know, or worse, as if he did and simply didn’t care. One of his kitchen staff laughed too, reinforcing just how normalized this behavior seemed to be for them.
And then—he said it again. To my face. In my presence. With full audacity.
That was my final visit.
For months, I stayed quiet. I didn’t want to hurt a small business. But I realized silence only protects harmful behavior. And let’s be clear: this wasn’t ignorance. It was blatant racism, spoken with comfort and confidence.
It baffles me how many Black folks support this food truck, not knowing the owner thinks he can drop racial slurs in conversation like seasoning—and laugh when called out. So no, I won’t be quiet about it. You don’t get to profit from the very community you degrade.
Your food might be halal, but your spirit?...
Read moreUpdate in response to owner: Ok fine, I misread that part. What about the chicken cooked over charcoal? Where was that? What about my utensils? Did I misread that? What about the 1 flimsy napkin?
Lol, thank you for your 1/6 of a reply. A smart business owner just admits they messed up when they did and they don't try to fight it. You messed up. I bet this isn't even halal.
Original: This was bad. I ordered online and did it exactly how they asked. I asked for the hot sauce ONLY onside and my main sauce in the wrap. They gave me both onside. That's fine, but if I have to dip every bite, then you're not giving me enought tzatsiki sauce. Next, the sauce tasted water down and bland. I really hope they don't claim the tzatsiki to be homemade. It was bad. Plain mayo is more flavorful. Lastly, where was the seasoning on the chicken? Lol, the description said that this is cooked over charcoal. This could not have been. I would have gotten more seasoning from just salt and pepper.
Oh hey, if I ask for utensils, can I get some?! Also, you sent me 1 napkin that?!? Lol. My hotel doesn't have silverware so you missed that and it sucked.
I can't believe how disappointing this entire order was. ...

We were hankering for some North African and Mediterranean flavors. So we put in an order for falafel, beef shawarma, lamb and chicken grill, and shrimp grill. We also got some Tabouli. All of the meals were quite tasty and satisfying.
The portions were more than generous and each meal came with a bountiful fresh salad and a small tub of delicious sauce/dressing.
I made a plate with everything thing, drizzled the garlic aioli sauce generously, and feasted! It was nice to have the fresh salad in balance with the basmati rice and the grill flavors.
Each generous portion means we essentially got extra meals for the price. In this time of inflation, those generous portions and fabulous flavors will bring us back frequently.
Plus, as mentioned before, Sam is very friendly and accommodating.
Both my wife and I agree, we loved our meals from Sam’s Kitchen Halal and we plan to get some takeout regularly.
We highly recommend Sam’s...
