We absolutely love going to Sangaree Pizza! We have been enjoying their delicious food, exceptional service, and family friendly atmosphere for years. I’m from New Jersey; I’ve had my fair share of Jersey pizza and restaurant joints, and Sangaree Pizza makes me feel like I’m back in NJ. And every once in a while, to feel and taste that sense of home is always a welcomed escape—especially after dealing with the nightmare that is I-26! And just when I thought things couldn’t get any better at Sangaree Pizza, they did! When my mother wanted to celebrate her 80th birthday, she wanted to see Mario and the super friendly staff that always welcomes us with a smile. She also loves the spaghetti with white clam sauce, the antipasto salad, and, of course, the cannolis. My wife called ahead to assure they could accommodate our party, and Mario promptly responded. When we arrived days later, they had the table set aside complete with ballons, their delicious bread— warmed and ready, and even had a tiara-like, birthday favor for my mom to wear (she proudly wore it all night). It made her feel special. Everything was on point the as soon as we sat down. Mandy and Grace were unbelievably friendly, attentive, and took such great care of us. And Mario came out to talk with us and greet my mom with a hug. During the end of our meal, my mom when to use the rest room. While she was away from the table, all the lights in the dining room went dark, and we were like “oh now, what the heck?” All of a sudden, Mandy and Grace emerged from the corner of the dining room with a cannoli with two lit candles—so sweet. We signaled that mom was in the rest room. As stealthy as they appeared, they disappeared with the same care. Minutes later as mom returned and got comfortable in her seat, the lights went out again and Mandy and Grace tried it again, but this time the whole restaurant was in on it and sang Happy Birthday as they approached the table. My mom was so touched that she teared up and her smile was from ear to ear. The beauty of it all is that we were unaware of it. The candles, the cannoli, and the surprise was another example of how family friendly and thoughtful everyone is at Sangaree Pizza. My mom’s celebration was a huge success!! We can’t thank Mario, Mandy, Grace, and the whole staff enough for their kindness and attention. They are the best! It was truly a wonderful and most delicious evening—a perfect way to celebrate my mom’s 80th! Thanks Sangaree Pizza for making us all feel at home and for making sure my mom’s celebration was one to look back on with...
Read moreI am from NY and have lived all over NYS including the city. I’ve had all different versions of NY style pizza, some better than others. The thing about NY pizza, you have your best 10/10 down in NYC and the further northwest you move towards Buffalo, the pizza quality completely changes and trends downward on that scale while the chicken wing quality tends to trend upward, but respectively all still good in their own way. I moved down to Summerville 6 months ago and have yet to find anything remotely close to a NY pie. I’ve placed many orders to various different shops in my search for the right pizza all mostly based on recommendations and/or reviews and everytime I have been disappointed. I rarely ever post reviews, but I will say this is hands down the best NY pizza I have had since I’ve been here and could definitely compete back up in NYS! I kept it really simple and ordered a large cheese and it was phenomenal! The texture and slight saltiness of the cheese, the subtle but flavorful sauce with just the right viscosity, the bit of grease on top that isn’t overwhelming, but in the correct proportion very satisfying. It was not the perfect pie though… the appearance honestly looked like your average or just below average pizza, the crust was good, but could maybe have been a 1/8-1/4 in thinner, and benefit of the doubt on this one because it was very very busy both dine in and takeout, the pie could’ve maybe cooked for 2-3 min longer to add a bit more firmness on the bottom as a compliment to its floppiness and foldability. The one thing I did that I would change is order regular cheese as opposed to extra cheese like I did this time. I went in thinking I may have to compensate somehow so more cheese is always better, but it did not need it. Despite that still 5 stars! The taste was excellent and on point, and the girl I spoke with at the counter was correct; I will be definitely be back for many more orders!!! Great job, I am already looking forward to my next...
Read moreOff the beaten path.... but the good was good.
We built our own pizza, had a three Calzone, and ordered an appetizer.
The pizza was ok. Could have used more sauce, it seemed a bit dry. We asked for feta instead of mozzarella, the cook did not amount for that difference.
WHY THREE STARS: The taste of the calzone eas fine. However, the waitress accidentally rang up a large and we had ordered a small. When she came to the table with a much larger calzone she apologized for ringing up the wrong size and asked if we'r styl wanted it. We didn't want to all eat at different AND thought it wouldn't make sense to order another one and end up throwing this one away. Clearly it was her mistake. In my mind I assumed we'd still end up paying for what we actually ordered especially since she made the error.
I WAS WRONG. She actually charged us for the larger size. That was not clear in the conservation. That's not good customer service and gives me enough reason not to want to go back.
We also ordered bruschetta. Asked specifically it it had balsamic vinegar on it. The waitress didn't know and left to ask. She stated it did. We ordered based on that. HOWEVER when we got it it did NOT have balsamic vinegar, instead just a vinaigrette dressing. Very different in taste - more like Italian salad dressing. Also very disappointed in that situation.
All in all we hoped to have find a new local pizza secret but our search...
