Iâd been an Obok customer for many years. Putting this statement on perspective, I use to take my kids there now they take theirs. I want to start with saying that the place looks fantastic, it is clean. I was debating on leaving a feedback or not, but after speaking with our waitress that I am going to call Becky, to not mention her name here, I truly believe they are trying. Unfortunately with the new ownership also comes different cooking styles and flavors. That been said: the food is good but it needs a bit of help. From the beginning I notice the service was different and so were the flavors. Again, it is not bad maybe for a new customer will be better. For me, my daughter and my granddaughters it was a shock to taste something so much different from what we are used to. The food presentation was outstanding. Beautiful dishes but it is not the Obok flavor I know. The prices seemed a big high for a Korean BBQ, but I am going to say that if they work on their flavors that might actually have a chance. We ordered the meal for two ($55), two orders of kimbob, one order of fry Mandu, one tea , a soda, two kid drinks and that counted for additional $40. Total bill $95 and we had to soften the bill with leaving a smaller tip than usual. When all was set an ls done we spent a bit over $100. I wouldnât mind it if the flavors were there. Hopefully they take action quick. Would I come back? I think I am going to wait for a few more reviews before I make the hour drive from home to there again. I know every cook and every owner will try to make a mark but why change what has been working for years? We ordered sautĂ©ed shrimps as an example. Beautiful presentation but lemon as a base in a Korean dish was not my favorite. Reminded me a bit of a Spanish ceviche. Maybe change the name of the restaurant? If they cannot get the flavors back. I tried to be as open and honest as I could when answering Beckyâs questions about my opinion and I am sharing it here. I say give them a try if you never had Korean BBQ, and if you are a returning customer like me and my family, share your opinions with them before taking it to a review platform. They seem to be nice people and the place shows their intentions for good quality. Fancier itâs not always better. Good luck from the deepest of my heart. I am giving 4 stars because like I said besides not being the Obok I knew the food was shy from ok, but the place is very clean and Becky...
Read moreStay away! After reading some of the reviews and seeing that they had a grilling table, we desided to eat lunch here for our Son's graduation from Basic. They advertise they serve authentic Korean food, however this is NOT correct, they should be ashamed to try and pass off their food as authentic korean food. With my wife being Korean from Korean they are doing a major disservice to their fellow Korean's and to their patrons by serving their food and calling it authentic.
The food is extremely Americanized, and just simply tasted bad to the degree that we did not eat the majority of our meal. There were four adults and one 2 year old. Are bill came to $100 after they included their own 18% gratuity. A gratuity that was not advertised anywhere that we saw to be an automatic gratuity and then they still ask for additional gratuity on the check. They did not have any grilling tables at the time that we were there. The side dishes were served on a paper plate, so the photographs that are shown to represent their restaurant are not accurate.
We would not recommend this location to anyone. Typically in Korean restaurants serve hot tea complimentary with your meal, this location charges you per glass and per refill.
Because this restaurant was so bad and we did not eat their food. We went to a different truly authentic Korean restaurant right up the road from this one called "Seoul Restaurant". This restaurant is small, quaint inside a market. It does not look like much from the outside or when you come in. But the food there is truly authentic taste absolutely fantastic, and is reasonably priced based upon the quantity and quality of food you received.
We leaving this review because we truly feel bad for anyone that is looking for authentic Korean food, or food in general to eat here. This location is definitely do we need to service everyone that is eating location and to their...
Read moreBeen coming to this restaurant for over 15 years and up until recently it's always been great food. I drive 45 minutes to eat here. Today, however, was a complete let down. My husband is ill and said he thought he could eat if I got him Korean. So I drive the 45 minutes just to get to go. He alwaysa orders bulgogi. Today.... bulgogi meat was dry, thin, and virtually tasteless. The extra lettuce I ordered to wrap the bulgogi in were tiny heads of romaine... Maybe I can use them to make salad, but definitely not make the bulgogi wraps... Which is what they were meant for in this case. $4 for unusable lettuce. Ugh! Another huge disappointment was my all time favorite from Obok... The stir fried squid. I ordered medium today. Normally I get mild and it still bring tears to my eyes but bc the flavor is normally too good to stop eating, I eat every bite. Today however... VERY very different story. The medium was not medium, and Had no flavor!! The portion was tiny... So much so, that I was still hungry. But again... The flavor being nonexistent was disappointing after the 45 minutes I drove to get what is normally the best Korean around town. I'm hoping this was a bad day, or a new cook.... But either way. Was not worth my drive or the $50 I paid...
