We visited Myrtle Beach for the first time this past week. Before vacation, my partner researches great places to eat, local bars, attractions, etc and the Brentwood was at the top of his list. I was a tad on the fence as I tend to stick to the same foods over and over again; if there’s chicken on the menu I’m probably getting that (haha). I am so happy he is more adventurous than I because The Brentwood did not disappoint.
The atmosphere itself is beautiful with great outside seating (some menu items are inside only), a great jazz band was playing (side note: the music was not too loud, in a good way. We have found while travelling that some places with live music can be too loud to speak to the people you’re dining with, this was a good volume in my opinion. However, I was not actually seated right outside near the band but while standing outside listening I was easily able to speak to those around me), landscaping and greenery was beautiful as well, there’s also a smoking area /place to dispose of your cigarette (aka don’t throw it on their beautiful property!!!)
The inside is a large Victorian style home from the early 1900s and is elegantly decorated. There are also some spooky tales attached to the home, now restaurant, for those interested in the spookier side of life. There’s a tour where they will discuss the tales with you. Our staff, David, showed us a really spooky picture that another patron had taken…. I won’t spoil the spook for you but if you visit the Brentwood, you need to ask about it and also tell David we said hi.
The staff were welcoming, friendly, and also went above and beyond by putting beautiful (faux) rose petals on our table with a “happy anniversary” sign as they asked about the occasion when we booked the reservation. Now, to the real reason you’ve read thus far…. The FOOD!!! All 7 courses of this meal were absolutely delicious! We tried to take pictures of each course but got distracted and missed two (the 1st “Chefs Tongue Teaser” and the blue cheese/baguette). Everything was plated beautifully and they allowed the perfect amount of time between courses. Our staff, David, was wonderful and made the experience great for us :) the two of us would still be chatting about how great the previous course was when we would happily see David coming with the next plate of goodness. Our risotto option was changed to a limoncello risotto and I’m happy it did cause it was my favourite part of the meal, absolutely mouthwatering. Our dessert option was changed to a raspberry crème brûlée, perfect way to end a meal. I can’t imagine the food could have gotten any better. Our biggest compliments to the chef, you blew our tastebuds away :)
The Brentwood was pricier than many of our other restaurant choices while in Myrtle Beach but we knew that when booking it and it was worth every cent and more. The experience itself was so fun for the two of us and we always like to choose one finer dining experience when travelling. I’m so happy my partner found this one- when we visit Myrtle beach again, we will definitely be back!! Until then, I have beautiful pictures...
Read moreHad dinner here with my SIL and Aunt. We decided to come here based on the reviews and it was someplace we hadn't been to. We made reservations for a table in the bistro (upstairs). Since it was early spring, the grounds were not much to look at. The exterior of the house itself was ok, I would have liked to see at least some cut greenery or lights to give it some pop. We walked in the door and straight to the hostess stand. She greeted us and said that our table was ready, so we were seated right away. Going up the stairs to the bistro we saw pictures on the wall. At the top of the stairs we went to the left toward the bar, to get to our table. I really liked the atmosphere upstairs. Very kitchy and cozy. Cork lined walls, spoon collections and various artwork. Our server greeted us and was very nice, however she was new and inexperienced. We asked her some questions about the history of the house, but she didn't really know anything. She ended up taking our drink order (2 kettle one martinis and a glass of wine) and brought us some bread and butter. After our drinks came out we ordered some appetizers. Two of the ladies were light eaters, so they ordered apps as their meal. They ordered the mussels, the mozzarella Riviera (caprese salad) and the beef tips (x2). I ordered the Chilean sea bass. Everything came out at the same time, which is what we wanted. However my aunt's beef tips had blue cheese crumbles in it, which she had asked the server to leave out. The server said she'd bring a fresh one without the crumbles and told my SIL and I to eat the one that was on the table. This was fine, however it took FOREVER for my aunt to get the replacement app (without the crumbles). My SIL and I ate the tips while my aunt waited. The tips were very small, but tender, and were on a bed of roasted fingerling potatoes with blue cheese crumbles. The app was a bit oversalted, IMHO better to under salt and let the patron add. The app was also mostly potatoes. Very little beef tips. I'd pass on this app. I also tasted the mussels. They were just ok (I've had better). The mussels were a bit over cooked and chewy and the sauce was thicker than I like. Pass for me. I didn't try the caprese salad, only because I'm a tomato snob. IMO when a restaurant serves a dish where the tomato is the star of the dish, the tomato should be perfect. I expect a lush, red, juicy, flavorful heirloom or vine ripened tomato. The tomato in this dish was pale and looked kinda mealy. Rule of thumb, don't order tomatoes in the off season. Pass. The highlight of the meal was my Chilean sea bass. It was cooked perfectly and the carrot tarragon puree was delicious. My only gripe here is that the server forgot my salad. We ordered dessert (bread pudding) and it was very good. I did ask for an espresso to go with it, but it took so long to get it there dessert was gone by the time it got to the table. All in all the meal was ok, but I've had better in the area. For this price point I'd say your better off going to Clark's, Boundary House or...
