I'm still quite perplexed and disappointed over my dining experience from last night. I absolutely hate high priced restaurants that fall short on the simplest of matters. So, my husband and I are taking a brief vacation and looked this place up. Most of the recent reviews are great and one should be able to assume that if a $100 tomahawk ribeye is on the menu - then it's a high class, delicious restaurant. Welp... we first started raising our eyebrows when we noticed how slow the service was. It's not a huge place. Three servers for 3-4 tables seems reasonable, so we couldn't figure out why it was slow. Nevertheless, two of the three servers were very kind and courteous- so we gave them grace. Appetizers were delicious. Everything was downhill from there. I asked the server for a second cocktail recommendation and preferred something sweet. She kindly said "let me ask the bartender." Seconds later, an older, skinny blonde walked up and suggested a drink. I assumed she was the bartender and I said "sure." The drink was great but just not what I was looking for. I was going to keep it but my server insisted on making me happy, which I appreciated. They took the drink off my bill and the next one I chose was perfect. The skinny blonde came back and asked about the other drink. I politely told her it wasn't my style/ not sweet enough. She definitely seemed to take the rejection of her suggestion personally. She walked away coldly and was dead silent. Turns out, she was just another server who had been eavesdropping I guess. She was later tasked with making our Caesar salad tableside and didn't talk much, so that was a little awkward. For my main entree, I ordered what I hoped to be a delicious ribeye. After all, this is a premium steakhouse. I asked for it to be cooked medium to medium well. Steak temperature is a cooking 101 skill in my opinion! I can cook steaks at different temps for my whole family at home. Now please note that I'm an easygoing person. I hate sending food back and I practice over-tipping. So, the kitchen sends me a super dry, well done steak. I could barely chew the two bites I took. My husband said his pasta was nothing to write home about and under-seasoned, but we decided to only send my steak back. More so, the Oscar topping on my steak was not as advertised nor a reflection of what my server said the ingredients would be. My server was so kind. She was a younger blonde and a mom of three. We chatted about our kids briefly and she ordered me another steak. We were the only ones left in the place and it was an hour before closing. Still, the wait seemed a little long. So...steak number 2 comes out. It's mildly bloody and very medium rare. My husband and I could only laugh at this point. My server kindly took it back to be fired a little longer on the grille. She brought my steak back and I must give sarcastic kudos to the chef. I don't know how the chef achieved it, but my ribeye by then was 1/3 rare, 1/3 medium and 1/3 well done. I politely asked for the check and doggy bags. My husband gave me the "we will throw all the leftovers out at the hotel look." I can't believe we walked out of there hungry. Hands down, you can get better food at a family restaurant like Outback or somewhere on the boardwalk. Including our generous tip, we paid over $260 for terrible food. The service is slow but the people are nice. The only delectable food you'll get here is sweet tea and scallops. Maybe the chef was having an off-night. Regardless, they...

Read moreWe had a romantic Valentine’s dinner planned at Thoroughbred. Arrived 5min before our scheduled reservation and were told to wait till the table is set, which is perfectly fine. Our not so fulfilling experience started with a wait, which was about 20 min beyond our reservation time. We didn’t make a big deal out of it, and thought it’s a special day and sometimes the restaurant can’t predict how long customers would take to finish their meals and enjoy the evening.
After we were seated, our server, Bobby, greeted us, handed the menus then came back and took the order. And there starts our journey with a very inadequate service throughout the night. Our appetizer was brought by an assistant or co-server, whom were the only pleasant staff we encountered the whole evening , since our server barely paid us any attention! I didn’t have utensils and had to share my fiancé’s. Our drinking water would run out and no one would bother to fill it up, no one would top my drink and I literally had to keep waving to our waiter who would just run by us as if we don’t exist, only for me to see him standing with the bartender chatting next to us, not because he’s busy helping other customers. Not to mention how he “mocked” me few times thinking he was making jokes.
We got the black beef tips for appetizer, which was very good. I liked my order of the Twin Lobster tail, and my fiancé’s Filet with Cake was good. The side dishes offered (mashed potatoes or vegetables) were average. Hoped there was more variety.
The whole experience wasn’t what I expected. Unfortunately, no manager stopped by to see how we were doing like the restaurant’s replies here suggest is customary. Our server showed up finally after we ordered the check (I assume to make sure we will tip him well!) asking how we felt about our evening. I didn’t hesitate to let him know that we weren’t satisfied. He thought I was joking, but I repeated my answer that we had a “so so” evening. He asked if I was going to write a review and I ensured him that I will. I was urging my fiancé to leave only 10% tip, but then he reminded me that it’s shared with the other assistants, who were indeed very good to us and did that server’s job for him. I would definitely recommend them for...
