My Dad and I did the Mystery Steampunk Mansion one. We had a great time and the esquire, Penny, was very kind and also very committed in making us a part of the storyline of the game. We got out with a couple of seconds to spare, but we got a lot of help, which wasn’t a bad thing because we definitely needed it. We’ve been to about 4 or 5 escape rooms in the past, and this was definitely one of our favorite ones. The design of the room and puzzles themselves were very well planned especially coming from a family owned business. Just a heads up, Riddles does implement “red herrings” into your games, which means that some clues don’t lead anywhere or are irrelevant. However, nothing was over the top misleading in my opinion. Also, something different from most escape rooms was the ability to choose a difficulty level, which determines how many hints we get and how clear the hints were. The hints we got weren’t direct, but were in a riddle format, which was a nice touch and still made it feel like we were solving something and not just getting answers. Also, another thing I appreciated was that you would get a sound to notify you if something was triggered or a new door opened. There had been some times previously with other escape companies where a door had opened and we had no idea because we weren’t in the room. A couple of things to note: the music in our room was a little too loud to hear Penny over the speaker. Either she was too quiet or the music was too loud, but for some of the hints, we had to ask twice. For the most part, the puzzles and steps were logical and made sense. However, there was one puzzle in particular that we could have used an additional clue. Without going into too much detail, there was one puzzle with arrows and numbers that meant nothing and the solution involved adding up a number in an unconventional way without any reason or inclination to do so. It’s possible we might have missed that hint, but we didn’t see anything that would put us in that direction. Overall, we had a great time and it was one of our favorite escape rooms. Would 100%...
Read moreHighly recommend this very family friendly activity. Our family of 6 included a 7 year old, a teenager, adults and a grandma. Everyone of us came away with a great experience that had us working together solving riddles, puzzles, following clues & laughing (often at ourselves) We had such a great time escaping the Marooned Island Escape that we had to return the next night and give the Myrtletown Wagon Trail interactive game with live actors a try. This adventure game was a great challenge for all age levels in our group; everyone was able to solve something. It was so much fun letting us role play and interact with the actors. This is truly a family business that is committed to making your visit as pleasant and entertaining as possible. We booked online and received immediate communication from Penny, one of the owners to explain and make sure our reservation was accurate including a 7 year old.Upon arrival we were greeted by members of the cast and made to feel as though our adventure started before entering our game room. No spoiler alerts here, except to say that the rooms for both of our adventures were designed to make us feel we were in the titled scene. The clues challenged us and were great fun to solve. The pricing for these adventures is quite reasonable for the 60 minutes of play considering the attention to details of the sets, props, clues and storylines and of course the quality family time. What a great way of getting everyone to put their cell phone away and communicate with each other. Thank you to Penny and the rest of the family and cast for making our visit so entertaining. Looking forward to checking out another of your...
Read moreI've experienced other escape rooms prior to this and thought it would be an excellent idea to have the group of people I was vacationing with to try out Riddles as a new fun experience. My expectations were high for this place given the high ratings on the business and the highly lauded compliments on the marooned room within the commented reviews. Unfortunately, the marooned room greatly missed the mark for myself and the other seven people in our group. 1)the rules/instructional portion before starting required way to much instructions to get started, and we should not have required all the hints and tips for solving that we received before even starting. Unfortunately, for the way the room flows, we did require these tips...and many more. 2)the guide had to assist us way too much and too often because the connections between clues were way to much of a stretch to make connections (no examples as to keep their room a secret for others). In their mind it made perfect sense and flow, but I feel like only because they already had the answers could they feel this way. 3)There was a part of solving that required you to have knowledge on a topic that you could not have solved without knowing about this topic (or in our case, the guide pretty much tell us the answers). My expectations for a room, based on prior experiences is: simple starting rules (don't break things, nothing comes off above head, 1 hr, etc...begin), and require little to no clues. Sorry to be so blunt, but again, expectations were high, and this just...
