Good juices and smoothies, subpar toasts and bowls.
Toasts. At $5ish I was thinking the avocado toast and monkey toast I ordered were a bargain…then I opened the boxes. They’re quite small - expect to be disappointed both in the flavor profile and quantity.
Bowls. They’ve achieved something unique here - the bowl tasted like purée of acai that’s been in the freezer too long. But it wasn’t an açaí bowl I ordered… and the cinnamon granola was good but overpowered the entire thing. It wasn’t the right consistency - I’m presuming it was made a while back and kept frozen like a brick.
Smoothies. Could use a bolder approach to the ingredients being blended. Generally tasted “soft” when I typically look for a more pronounced acidity or a punchy ingredient. Jaco’s juice and taco bar in Westchester has a smoothie called the Brooklyn where cardamom is the main note. The green smoothie we had at City Girl was essentially that minus the cardamom, and it was fairly boring. I added blue spirulina but the color ended up a pretty average light green (which means they probably didn’t add even green spirulina to the blend…not sure what I paid a dollar more for?)
Juices. Good quality and fresh. Two of the ones we were sold were past the best by date though. I chalk it up to the holiday season. We drank them anyway.
I’m glad the area has something like City Girl and will be back for juices and smoothies, but unless I know the bowls are made fresh and the toasts (even if it ups the price a bit) are a bit more significant in flavor and size - they won’t be ordered...
Read moreUpdated, went back and tried the toast, wasn’t even toasted and the size of the piece of toast was so sad. Tried the smoothie in hopes that at least that would be good, but nope. All frozen fruit and the taste was not good. It’s a shame but I guess some businesses prefer the easy quick way to make stuff, no quality fresh ingredients used here. I have tried many acai places all over Pennsylvania and Maryland. This place is cute and comparable in price to most places but the big downfall is that the acai is already frozen (like a brick) at the bottom of the container and they just add toppings. If you expected fresh blended acai, this place isn’t it. I assume it’s to speed up the process but you have to wait for for the acai to melt to consume it. Very disappointing, maybe the other options of smoothies are better but not a place to get acai bowls. I would recommend Sweet Aloha Bowls in Royersford for the...
Read moreVery good açaí bowls and juice as well as nice staff. The only drawback is that it’s extremely pricey for what you receive. You can purchase an entire breakfast at another establishment for the price of one juice. I also found a hair in my bowl which made the bowl unappetizing and I threw it away. The following day I was driving by City Girl and stopped to tell the owner so she would know to prevent this from happening again. I was surprised because she didn’t say anything, she just...
