This review is about the manager who sat in front of the restaurant today. Every restaurant can serve a bad meal periodically, it happens sometimes. It is how you handle your customer when that occurs which reflects your character.
One of my favorite expressions is, "How people treat you is their Karma. How you react is yours."
Whoever was the manager today (a young man that I have never seen there before) needs to go back to school and take the customer service 101 course. I am a regular customer for many years and have always enjoyed the food and service.
However, today was an exception to the rule and my son's meal was horrible. The mushrooms tasted sour and most likely a spoiled item was incorporated to the dish (sause, meat or vegetable). This can happen in the best of restaurants. The dish tasted so bad that he did not want to order a different dish and I gave him half of my meal. He did not touch his meal.
At the end of the meal (because no one asked us during the meal if there was something wrong with our food), we told the waitress that the meal was not edible and most likely has a spoiled ingredient because of the sour taste to the mushrooms. We eat a lot of Chinese Food. She immediately apologized and told us that she was going to bring it to the attention of the manger. She later came back, put the bill down and left the table. The bill was not adjusted for the food that we did not touch except for one nasty bite.
I went up to the manger is disbelief because any restaurant that serves a dish that the customer does not touch because they say it was not edible will apologize and remove the item from the bill because they take pride in servicing good food and providing good customer service. I explained the situation again to the manager giving him the benefit of the doubt that he might not have understood the waitress. Unfortunately he understood the waitress and me perfectly and with a very smug face looked me in the eye and told me that the food was not spoiled and that he would not remove it from the bill. I responded by saying that is how you get very loyal regular customers to never come back by disrespecting them with an attitude.
I am hoping that the owner of this restaurant reads this review and has a talk with this new manager so that a restaurant with historically good food does not good out of business because of poor new management.
I rarely write reviews. Only if the service was over the top outstanding or over the top terrible as in this situation. This occurred on May 22, 2025 during lunch time and the transaction was run at 12:58:22 and was Transaction #18. When my card was brought back to me, they automatically included a very generous tip without my consent, but I was not going to argue with the manager who probably ran the card. I am sure the waitress was just doing what she was told to do by a manager.
Unfortunately, if this situation is not resolved to my satisfaction, we will not be returning to this establishment again and it is a shame because we have been coming here for years. It is located around the corner from my office.
Sorry for the lengthy post, but the owner of the restaurant needs to know how this manager is treating...
Read moreOn 10/5, I decided to try Kon Chau (TC was closed which has the BEST DUMPLINGS, etc) but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. Upon arrival, I noticed how dirty the floor was, which was quite off-putting, especially given that the restaurant has carpeted flooring (never a great choice). While cleaning a nearby table, one of the staff casually threw a piece of straw wrapper onto the floor, as if to say, “We’ll clean it later.” I found that unsanitary, especially for a restaurant with carpet. Cleanliness should be a priority—keep the floor tidy, particularly when it’s harder to maintain.
The experience didn’t improve with the food. I ordered the pot pie/meat pie, and while they managed to have it in stock, it was served at room temperature. It tasted as if it had been sitting out all day. Serving lukewarm food, especially with meat, is unacceptable. The pastry crust was bland, and the filling was even worse. I couldn’t take more than a bite.
The dumplings were passable but certainly not on the level of Tropical Chinese’s. They were slightly overcooked on top, giving them a dark and hardened appearance, though they weren’t tough. They lacked the visual appeal and finesse you’d expect from properly steamed dumplings.
The only redeeming dish was the Mongolian beef, which was flavorful and well-prepared. Unfortunately, the fried rice was another letdown. It lacked freshness and had a little bit of an overwhelming egg and oil flavor. It was far from the rich, savory fried rice I expected.
In the end, I gave the restaurant three stars solely for the beef. Beyond that, I don’t plan to return or recommend this...
Read moreKon Chau is a delicious restaurant that needs help in the way it is maintained.
If when you first walk in... you don't mind the dirty and old looking rug, the old style ceiling tiles that need replacing and reception area desk... which I use this word freely here.... If after this you find yourself sitting and ready to order.... you are in for a great meal.
This dim sum style restaurant has been making great food for decades. It isn't your traditional dim sum where you see carts with different plates going around and is hard to get what you want... Here, you select from your menu sheet at each table and they bring you your food to the table when ready. Most of this little plates bring like 3 pieces per order and costs about $4.00 ... some more some less.
I have tried a lot of the dumplings and some of the most unusual ingredients like honeycomb (tripe) with black bean sauce or chicken feet and they were also tasty... weird but tasty. From the dumplings among my favorites are soup dumplings, leek dumplings and tea dumplings with pork. Having said that, there are soooooo many options that you will have to do your own research.
One thing is for sure, you won't break the bank here. Everything is inexpensive and I would say plentiful for the money.
Service is really good...
