Easily the best donut place in the area. I work in an office in Layton and sometimes people bring donuts to be nice. I used to go to Johnny O's Layton location until they closed. Most people bring donuts from Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts, I'm not a big fan of those donuts. I found this place and let me say that this is my go to donut location. I only bring donuts from this place. Now sometimes we run into a day where everyone brings donuts in our office. When I bring donuts from this location, my donuts are the first ones gone. When we have important individuals coming to our location, I get asked where I get my donuts. Yes they're a little more on the pricey side, but it's worth it. I also love their fresh fruit Fridays. I've met the owner a few times and let me say he is the nicest individual and is truly about making good donuts. There have been a few times where he gave me an extra stamp on my frequent visitor card or given me an extra donut in exchange for an honest review (example being when they offered a tres leches and churro donut, I went in wanting one, mentioned I was thinking really hard between the both of them, and he threw in the other one after asking for me to post which one is better (PS the churro was better)). This is my go to donut place and I don't know another location that...
Read moreNot going to lie I had higher expectations with the reviews I saw. I'm pretty practical and this is Donut Stop number 68 across the country... I enjoy checking donut places out that aren't your run-of-the-mill franchises.
I base my review off of 5 basic criteria, flavor of the bread itself, frosting richness, aftertaste, if they mastered a basic maple bar and cost.
The bread alone tastes okay I guess. I guess that they are going for more of a biscuit/cronut texture and taste. Basically just like Duck Donuts only crispy. It tastes like a box of old fashioned donuts from a grocer covered with decent frosting. They have a rich frosting which helps but the donut is a cheap, odd-flavored scone I think would be better served alone with BBQ like cornbread. It just doesn't hit the mark. Not by a long shot.
Cost was not horrible but not worth what I tasted. Ended up throwing away 3 of the 4 I bought.
To the owners: if you're ever in Richmond, VA, stop off in Petersburg outside of town, visit Beaunuts. The texture, flavor and crisp donut you're aiming for is an art form there. Give it a try and see why I have a hard...
Read moreThe donuts are yummy, but this place suffers from new-business hiccups.
They only currently have cake donuts, so don't go in expecting a choice between yeast or cake.
I've been a couple of build-your-own donut shops out if state before and these places built the donuts "Subway-style" where you went down a line. So, I was surprised that this place used order forms; however, the interior is absolutely tiny, so I can see why they choose to do it this way.
They had 3 people working the kitchen, and it still took 20 minutes for the donuts to be coated. I realize there were a couple orders ahead of mine, but they dipped and coated so slowly! I would have hated to wait so long for just a single.
I ordered a caramel and pretzel combination, but was disappointed that all I got on it was 3 small pretzel rods set down the center when I was expecting crushed or knot pretzels all over the entire donut.
They could also benefit from a few more simple glaze options, like honey or cinnamon.
Also, a minor thing, I like to have milk with my donuts, but all they sell is small milk boxes instead of the...
