Red's Dairy Freeze — Restaurant in South Portland

A couple of years ago, I developed IBS, and even since then my diet has been EXTREMELY limited. Ice cream of any sorts has been off the table this whole time because most contain gums and stabilizers that aggravate my digestive system. Me and my dad visited Portland over the past few days, and we came across this ice cream place.

It had been so long since I had ice cream, I said screw it and got a half vanilla half chocolate soft serve. This was the FIRST ice cream in two whole years that didn't cause me an extremely painful or uncomfortable reaction. I don't know if you guys don't use guns or stabilizers, or if you use more mild versions of them, but seriously, thank you SO much for this super special treat.

Drove by this window service soft serve parlor on the way to the Portland Head Lighthouse. What an excellent treat to cool off in the summer heat.

Read online about their "Boston shake" which turns out is an off-the-menu item, but totally worth trying. The cashier was so friendly and patient in explaining the "Boston" is your choice of shake with a soft serve sundae on top. I ordered eggnog shake topped with salted caramel soft serve and fudge syrup. With over 20 shake flavors and 10 soft serve choices, mix and match how you want.

Stopped by here because we saw how long the line was and anything with a long line on a hot day must be worth it and it was. Very creamy and delicious ice cream.

Don't let the line scare you, it can get long but moves pretty quick. I'd say we had about 15 people in front of us and it moved in about 10min or so.

A lot of options for ice cream flavors, toppings, and creations. Had the cookies and cream soft serve which was very good. Blueberry sundae with vanilla ice cream was excellent, the blueberry sauce had plenty of blueberries in it.
