My family and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Hula Hoops Restaurant & Tiki Bar, and it was an experience to remember! The tiki-themed decor, complete with island-inspired decorations, set the perfect ambiance for a fun and relaxing meal
The menu offers a delightful mix of Hawaiian and Filipino cuisine, with a splash of Korean. They offered plenty of vegan options. I highly recommend trying the Sisig Fried Rice and the Island Wings – both were absolutely Onolicious and packed with flavor. The Spam Fries and Fried Wings were also standout dishes that I couldn't get enough of. However, be prepared for smaller portions, which might leave you wanting more.
The cocktails at Hula Hoops are a must-try. They are not only visually stunning but also expertly crafted with fresh juices and house-made syrups. My personal favorite was the Buz-Tai, which had the perfect balance of flavors. The Pineapple Express cocktail was a bit overpowering with rum, but still enjoyable. For those who prefer non-alcoholic options, the Ube Licious is a refreshing and delicious choice. Similar to a Pina Colada but with Ube
The staff at Hula Hoops were warm, inviting, and attentive. Lina was our server, she was helpful and friendly. She made sure we had everything we needed and she was always ready with a smile. The service truly added to the overall positive experience.
The atmosphere at Hula Hoops is both festive and to be " Pacific' SHAKA! The tiki-themed decorations and dim lighting created a cozy and mysterious vibe that makes you feel like you're on a mini-vacation. It's a great spot for a date night or a fun outing with friends. However, driving up from the South Bay, with its warmer weather. We were cold due to being underdressed, so make sure to dress warmly if you visit on a chilly evening.
While the food and drinks are fantastic, it's worth noting that Hula Hoops can be a bit pricey. The smaller portion sizes might not justify the cost for everyone, so keep that in mind when planning your visit.
Overall, Hula Hoops Restaurant & Tiki Bar is a gem in S SF. Whether you're looking for delicious food, amazing cocktails, or just a unique dining experience, this place has it all. We can't wait to go back and try more of the...
Read moreWe came here to try a new Hawaiian restaurant, we're game to try local takes on Island food.
Maybe because we don't drink...we had a higher expectation of local grindz from Hula Hoops since we're not qualified to comment about the drinks.
Right off the bat, their reservation system had so many rules. Late? Charge. Late cancel? Charge. Modify to more people? Charge. Modify to less people? Charge less but charge anyway. Then, at the table-bottomless mimosas? Everyone at the table has to order. Stay longer than 90 minutes? $50/person up to 3 1/2 hours. None of the regs came into play, but it felt like if this place was so tight their food had bettah brok' da mouth.
It didn't.
We really wanted to like the plsce, we really did. The waitress was sweet and attentive, each dish had a welcoming presentation, but the food was small in quantity and the price was high for was you got. Ahi nachos-four wonton chips. The chip/ahi/avo/seaweed salad was overwhelmed by the size of the wonton (hint to the chef: cut the wonton diagonally...same difference but 8 chips looks more visually substantial than 4. Better yet, how about providing 8 wonton skins, they're cheap anyway? Ahi tataki salad-each piece of Ahi was smaller than what you'd put on sushi. Other dishes were better. Chicken wings were hot and crunchy, the sauce was OK. Kimchi fried rice was tasty but could have had more flavor. Loco Moco was OK, like others said, shoulda ordered the gravy on the side so no to smother the mochiko chicken, mac salad was actually decent.
Best dish of the day was the satay chicken. Mostly moist, sauce was delicate but flavorful, too bad its $8 for two mini skewers.
We had the Black Sesame Crepe cake, thought it was very pretty (22layers was impressive) ...where's the sesame flavor? Creamy, yes, sesame, no, and for $12, too.
Theyve been around for about a year. I'm sure they have loyal following but many if not most reviews are about their drinks. The food presentation is impressive but ultimately its about the food and it...
Read moreHad a fantastic experience at Hula Hoops. It was our first time visiting as a family, and everything — from the food to the ambiance — exceeded expectations.
The food was absolutely delicious across the board. My dad loved the poke bowl, my mom enjoyed a flavorful ahi tuna dish, my brother had the longanisa and spam musubi (a fun twist on comfort food), and I had something like mochiko fried chicken loco moco — super satisfying. Portion sizes were generous, we all left full, and the presentation was spot on. The menu had a wide variety of creative, Hawaiian and Filipino-inspired dishes that we’re excited to try next time.
The feel was very good too — casual, lively, and family-friendly, but also cozy and welcoming enough that it’d be a great date spot too. We especially loved the island-themed décor and tropical music, which added to the relaxed ambiance.
The service was top-notch. The staff was kind, attentive, and even offered to take our family photo when they saw us snapping pictures — very thoughtful touch. They checked in on us without being pushy, which made the experience feel warm and genuine. (Some also speak Tagalog! Parents loved it.)
Prices were what you’d expect for the high quality of food and service, and the brunch offerings extended past noon, which was a nice addition. The restaurant was clean and well-maintained, and although parking in the area can be a bit tricky (it’s just a busy spot), it was worth it.
Highly recommend for family gatherings, casual hangouts, or even a relaxed date night. We definitely hope to come back — five stars all around....
