I am not sure what is happening to this restaurant. Used to be the best Mediterranean restaurant in the Downriver area. But in the last 3 years, things have been steadily declining. We would order from there at least 3 times a month. Used to love the oven bread with the Hummus. When you ordered a large Hummus with oven bread, they would give you about 6 pieces of oven bread AS WELL AS flat bread with it. This is a LARGE Hummus, after all. But the last few years the bread has not been as good, and you now only get 4 pieces of oven bread and NO flat bread. Not sure what kind of a flour shortage we have right now, but that is ridiculous. Today was the last straw. Ordered food for my family....asked for EXTRA bread...barely received it for the extra money. And it is now half the size of the bread that they used to give you. Plus the sandwiches only had about half the meat on them also. I went to a competetors on the way home just to get some additional bread, but instead ordered a SMALL hummus with bread. They gave me 5 pieces of bread with a small, vs the 4 that you get with a large at Beirut Gardens now. We have been faithfully going here, even with the steady decline....but this is the last time. Food is still good. But they just don't give you what you are used to now. Last time I go there. The small portion of chicken on my sandwich today was the final kicker. No more. Other places locally take better care of...
Read moreLunch time and I'm Downriver again, Southgate today. (I'm still finding new cities. This area is huge, I love it!) The gentleman at the counter was extremely pleasant, patient and very helpful to the lady in front of me who was placing a to-go order. Ordering from a big, well-laid out menu, I went with the Shish Kabob from the Lunch Specials ($12) on the back today. Lentil soup (my new favorite) & rice as sides. The fresh, hot pita & garlic spread could be a meal unto itself. Then the soup arrives. Hot, nicely seasoned with two lemon wedges. A nice twist (sorry for the pun) and it adds a good flavor to it. The entree arrives looking almost too good to eat. Grill marks on all the vegetables, the presentation is tremendous. The rice is perfect: light, fluffy, delicately seasoned. The peppers grilled exactly right. There was one small mistake: I thought I ordered the lamb but got the chicken. Not an issue, I was torn between the two anyway and it was superb. Tender, juicy, fantastic. (I'm running out of superlatives.) This is definitely, as far as I'm concerned, the best Middle Eastern restaurant in the area. If it can be beaten,...
Read moreI felt the urge to have some middle eastern food yesterday so I took my family for the first time to this place. I was hoping that I get a good meal and a nice experience to make me go back over and over but unfortunately I do not think I will go back! To start, they are nickeling & diming every little thing you get and they push things to you then tell you it will cost extra!! what a cheap way! My wife wanted to try both the meat & the chicken Galaba dish so they said they can do it for extra! Then if you like the garlic sauce, it is extra! Also, kids drinks are the same price like adult drinks! then xtra shrimp is $6.00 xtra for a dish that is not all that great! Then, the most annoying thing ever which is piles of empty dishes on your table waiting for someone to pick up sometime before you go but no luck!!!! The taste of the food was not that great but for Americans it might taste good because they just do not know how the real middle eastern food taste like! Service is OK but not the greatest. Sorry to say, it is a one & done kind of a thing and will...
