Del Taco — Restaurant in Southgate

Get ready! First my daughter and I pull into the parking lot park and start getting ready to get out of our vehicle (putting on our masks). A young girl walks past and goes into the restaurant we're at this point a couple minutes behind walking in as well. The first thing I noticed was that she was an employee. She went behind the counter put her hair in a ponytail and proceeded to put gloves on and started towards the area to make food. I immediately stopped her and asked if she could wash her hands seeing as she had just come from outside. Then as my daughter and I are waiting to be greeted which never happened I had to ask if someone was going to take our order. Another young girl finally walks over and says that they were busy. We were the only customers in the restaurant and I'm not sure how busy the drive thru was but there were at least 6 employees behind the counter and no one attempted to help us. As I'm ordering a burrito the girl asked if I wanted beyond meat or steak. I said neither chicken she says let me see if we have chicken. As she is walking to go check another girl making food drops 3 containers that look like they're used for sides onto the floor and proceeded to pick them up off the floor and place them on the counter were they were preparing food! At that point I was completely disgusted that she didn't immediately throw them in the trash, which was just behind her that I decided to leave. Overall, the service was horrible and clearly they aren't taking in consideration that there's a pandemic and cleanliness is essential and of high importance. Even if there weren't a pandemic I would expect them to be clean because they're handling food. I will drive further away to another location before I visit this one ever again. I have left more bad reviews for local restaurants than I care to admit. My bridges are easily burned when I feel like my money is wasted at a location that doesn't give me good service and fresh, tasty food. This is not the case at Del Taco and I am happy to share my great experience here. The food has been so wonderful at this location that I’ve come here three times this month. The night staff is on point with friendliness and efficiency! Saturday night October 9 around midnight I stopped by the drive thru and when I got home I wanted to kiss the chef because my food was hot, delicious and it was very apparently made with love. Again, I came through tonight after work around 2:30 AM and once again I am blown away by how much love they put into their work. I am so used to receiving terrible, stale, and lazily thrown together food from Taco Bell in Wyandotte and I am so glad that I NEVER have to go there again because this Del Taco takes good care of me! I finally feel like I’m not getting ripped off at a fast food place and my love and appreciation is overwhelming.

Side note, the staff are allowed to accept tips. So if your food is as incredible as mine was, consider giving a few bucks for tip so we can keep the current staff motivated and smiling! drove 30 minutes because this was the only fast food restaurant open later than midnight. we love del taco way more than taco bell and decided that would be our best option. let me start off by saying it took 15 minutes to order 4 items. worker confirms everything is right and we pull up to the window and we get our food. we look at the receipt and it’s missing an item that was confirmed at the drive through. we asked if the item we ordered was in the bag because it wasn’t on the receipt. the person working had an extreme attitude and actually reprimanded us for “not saying it when she asked if that was everything” even though she confirmed it when we were ordering. that wasn’t even the worst of it though as she was going to remake it, she told the person in the back “if you don’t have gloves on that’s okay i’ll do it.” and proceeded to begin making the burrito for us with the same gloves she just touched 14 different surfaces and money with. we were so absolutely appalled and disgusted we drove away without the burrito and drink that we ordered. I could’ve dealt with the attitude but after watching her make a burrito with the same gloves she just touched money with, i’m good. i’ll just go to the taylor...
