I have been eating here for years and the portion sizes used to be huge. It was common for people to get takeout and get 2 meals out of it. Also the lunch specials used to be as large as the dinners but they eventually made the lunch specials smaller, but still enough to fill anyone up. Dine in portions are larger than carryout but even carryout has large portions. For myself and the many people at work who have regularly gotten food from here for years now, I have never once heard of anyone getting sick or an upset stomach from eating there, which is surprising because the place doesn't look too sanitary. The doors are dirty and the floor so so. It's basically a Chinese greasy spoon with good food. One thing is true, the food though generally good can be hit or miss. Sometimes the chicken is dry, whether in General Tzo's Chicken or any other chicken dish. General Chicken, Almond Chicken and Egg Foo Young are my favorites. You can never be sure what you will get. The good times outweigh the bad though. Won't cost you an arm and a leg like Cathay House and is better than Lichee Gardens, though I haven't been to Lichee Gardens in years. This isn't fine dining folks, its good downriverite blue collar grub that generally tastes pretty good and won't give you the runs or break the bank. I hope they stay in business as long as...
Read moreI worked nearby for years and used to stop in for Lunch or sometimes after work for Dinner. The food was always good and the portions huge. So last night I was hungry and in the mood for Chinese and thought of here. I haven't been in quite awhile. When I pulled in at Dinner time I noticed that the place was empty. That gave me some concern but when I went up to the door they had a sign the says, "Only Carry-outs after 3pm No Dine in." So that explains why they were empty. I planned on eating there so I was pretty disappointed in that fact, I wasn't looking for a Carryout. I was prepared to walk away and find some place else to go and eat but I had always liked their food so I made a order and took it home. It was really good and the portions we're still big. And if I'm in the mood for Chinese for Lunch they will still be on the top of my list but if I'm out for Dinner this won't be the place to go. I hate Carry-out. I want my food coming from the Kitchen to my table, not placed in containers then transported home to be eaten soggy and cold. If I was going to go for Carry-outs then I'd have stayed closer to home so the food would be hot when I got home. That cost them a star. Otherwise it was very good after I threw it in the microwave for...
Read moreBeen eating here almost weekly for 10 years or more. It used to be hands down the best Chinese restaurant downriver. Unfortunately they've pretty much given up. Now it seems to be a burden for them to make food for us, or even answer the phone to take our order. For several months we tolerated the lack of service and unpredictability (they randomly close on any given day or at any time) because the food was so good. That's no longer the case. They overcook almost everything almost every time. Also make sure to check your order before you leave so that you don't get home and find out your sweet and sour chicken doesn't have any sweet and sour sauce. It's happened to us twice recently.
I will always miss this place. Nobody makes food as consistently good as they did. They are but a shell of their old selves. The two stars are just a token of my appreciation for all the years of awesomeness. Don't go here if you have any self...
