My wife and I have been eating at Cafe Rio since 1997. Many times we would wait over an hour in line at the Provo location and it was worth the wait! We became close friends with the original founders who prided themselves on customer service, quality of food, cleanliness of location and speed of service. They hired hard working employees who took pride in the fact they worked for this company and it showed in the final product. The original owners sold the franchise several years ago. For the most part we still enjoy eating at Cafe Rio and have at several locations. I don't know what has happened to the Spanish Fork store. This was our absolute worst experience in over 20 years of patronage. While sitting in the parking lot we placed our order online @ 6:45 P.M. and decided to wait in our vehicle. Our order would be ready for pickup at 7:00 o'clock. My wife walked in @ 6:58 just on case our order was ready. Of course it was not! Finally I called Cafe Rio's call center at 7:15 to lodge a complaint and request a refund. This location was not overly busy (and nowhere near as busy as the in the old days). My wife informed me the there were some employees who were feverishly working while others were literally standing around twittling their thumbs and still others stood around watching others work. Our order was finished at 7:20. Their excuse was that they were waiting for steak to be cooked. We arrived home two minutes later to a cold burrito enchilada style that have 5 small pieces of steak inside. We will give Cafe Rio one more chance but NOT AT THE SPANISH FORK LOCATION. we're done with them. This location needs to go through some serious re-training and regain quality control with food and personnel. As for us if we want Cafe Rio we'll make the...
Read moreMy family enjoys Café Rio very much but this location has got to be the worst dining experience I have ever had. The food is great, but the last several times we have gone to this location we haven't been able to order what we wanted. They claim they are out of several key ingredients used in every dish, every time we go. So we end up paying for a meal that doesn't have all the ingredients that should be included. Also, the service is absolutely terrible!! Hands down, worst service I have ever received. The employees don't listen to what you order, which causes them to miss items, or add items that you want or didn't want. The attitude the employees project is very rude, and unwelcoming. They seem very short, and annoyed to do anything that is required of them. Especially the cashier. We have to take the food to the cashier, and then after not being offered drinks, when we request them the cashiers response is an annoyed sigh while slamming down two cups. We have never gotten a welcome to café rio, or thank you come again...EVER. Service is key when running a business. Most of the employees are teenagers who obviously just want to hang out in the back, and text. The top off was when my husbands food was "lost". We were in line ordering food and by the time we got to the cashier his steak tacos were no where to be found, and the employees were unhelpful. We paid for the tacos and were told they would bring them out to us. 30 minutes later we still had heard nothing. When asking about the tacos the employees seemed annoyed and put out. We eventually got the steak tacos after about a 45 min wait total, but it was like pulling teeth. AFTER paying for them. We weren't even offered free drinks for the wait or bad service. WORST...
Read moreI go out of my way for Fideo Friday and other days. Most of the experiences I have had at Café Rio have been great. However, I went to the Spanish fork and the service in their "To Go" department was more frustrating than anything I have ever experienced from Café Rio. The employee Wyatt indicated that there would be a 55 minute wait for my order of one Pork Burrito for myself and a kids quesadilla for my son. After about a half hour or more, I arrived a little early and apologized for being early but asked if there was a chance my meal might be in the works or if it was possible to receive my meal even a little earlier than the 55 minutes promised. Wyatt informed me that the wait would not be one second more or one second less than the 55 minute time frame that he promised. This comment seemed a little strange as there was (based on my experience with Café Rio) less than average traffic. This comment was also what caused me to immediately cancel my order and go somewhere else for dinner. There were no other customers ahead of me or behind me in the "to go" line. I understand they may have some sort of intention of keeping the "to go" meals more fresh and more warm if they can promise them at a certain time. Or even some other motive but unfortunately, Wyatt offered no explanation. His message was abrupt and carried a demeaning tone not characteristic of a customer service representative at a dignified place of business. The frustration was not entirely what he said but certainly how he said it. I really enjoy Café Rio normally and have not had this poor of an experience at other locations. I will continue to enjoy Fideo Friday's and eating there with family and friends, just not at...
