Don't let the rebrand and the clearly paid for reviews fool you. This is just Asuka and it still sucks. The price is about the only thing going for it. The rice is simultaneously too soft and too hard. The fried rice is so flavorless. And everything is oddly fishy... like they put fish sauce on everything, or refrigerate their veggies on the same shelf as the fish or something. The food just tastes so flavorless and everything felt overly greasy... there is an oil slick on the bottom of my plate from the fried rice... I wish we had decent Chinese food here, but sadly we do not. They really need to take a trip to the bay area and see what things are supposed to taste like. My adopted Cantonese dad is rolling in his grave right now.
The people are friendly and I guess it looks nicer, but I don't care, it's Chinese food, not a fine dining restaurant. I'd buy fried rice from a food cart if it looked good, I don't need fancy decor, I need good food. This isn't like NY style/American style and it's not authentic.. it's just bad.
Re Owner reply:
Nice copy/paste to try and save face. Your food is flawed to it's very core. Instead of rebranding every year and getting fresh reviews, why don't you go eat at some of your competitors. Go to San Francisco for a day and see what they are doing differently. Your food is bland, cooked incorrectly, tastes like cross contamination, and the greasiest I have ever had. No amount of good service and remodel face lifts will save your food. I am not saying this to be mean, I genuinely want you to improve, because you are very close to my workplace. I would love to have good Chinese food close by, but there's no amount of me telling you what my preferences are that will save your food. I've seen your kitchen, you have the right equipment, please learn to use it. I can cook better food at home with my $15 wok and electric burner, and I'm not even Chinese. I would rate my cooking skills with Asian food at a 3/10, and I could make better...
Read moreWhile shopping at neighboring grocery, I noticed this restaurant and made a mental note to try it. After looking at its reviews, and seeing the overwhelmingly positive number, my wife and I did so today around 3 pm. From the moment we entered we were impressed. It is spacious and bright. The seating is plentiful, but not crowded. The booth we sat in actually had arm rests. One set of booths has inset warmers. I was only able to try one third of the offerings that appealed to me. The seafood dishes were properly cooked and lightly seasoned. (On the way out, I noted a poster I’d overlooked in the foyer on entering that other levels and types of seasonings were available upon request). My wife and I are in our late 70s and the levels of seasoning were perfect for us. The chicken, beef, and pork offerings were excellent. As were the traditional fare of spring rolls, noodles, and soups. All salad offerings were fresh, and the cream topped apple and melon mix was particularly tasty. Fresh bing cherries were available. The server containers are onThe smaller side, but continually refreshed. Finally, we cannot say enough about the service and manager/owner, their mother. Dishes were promptly removed, drinks refreshed and offers for help in abundance. One of the benefits of being older is at normal restaurants, one meal is twice what we eat, so there’s leftovers to take home. Not at buffets. However, seeing my wife was looking ready to go, and I was not done, the owner offered to box up what I had not yet eaten. Even without the “buy 9 buffets, get one free” club on the reverse of their business card, we agreed we’d be back very soon and bring others. I am a retired The Johns Hopkins University professor (my wife, a retired RN) and have eaten at many Asian restaurants over the years and across the country. Today’s meal experience is easily in the top three of those restaurant visits. This restaurant is a hidden gem of an eatery...
Read moreThe old buffet that was there was terrible, to say the least! Quit going there for YEARS! Heard about the new one on TV add. Decided to come on Easter Sunday - what a treat!! There was such a large selection that I could not try it all, but what I had was very delicous. Everything was fresh and hot, flavorful, spiced just right, the best buffet in town. I am a real sushi eater and the choices were all rolls, not too much rice enclosed in the roll. It was ok as far as buffet goes - I much prefer slices of raw on top of rice, but that's just me. The buns were great! The salmon had good flavor, mussles hot with a sauce, crab legges were small, I did not see clams - that doesn't mean they were not there as there is sooo much to choose from. The HIGH-LITE was the oysters!!!! Wow, large, plump, hot in a terry sauce, add a little squeezed lemon and hot-sauce- yum, yum, yum!! The shrimp had to be pealed, but they were so good I didn't mind 3 napkins or so. The soup could have been warmer but the hot&sour had good flavor - did not get to the others. Plenty of desserts. But who has room. The were busy checking on people, picking up dishes, filling drinks. It is sure I will come again and bring friends next time. Good place for a family Sunday dinner - or evening. While I was there there were lots of families and food for everyone (even the...
