Don't let this run down strip mall fool you.
This was my first time at M&M's. We walked and got a very sweet and warm "Welcome, please sit where you like". We could hear joyous laughter from the kitchen. The kind of laughter that lifts you up and makes you deeply happy. Jazz and soul music wafting in on the speakers. The decor is one of fishing and southern charm.
My waitress was Cherise. She was so kind, sweet and friendly. We were laughing in no time. I asked what she suggested. She suggested one of the specials. I got to pick two sides. How could you go to a southern restaurant and not have the collard greens. I got the cubed steak with mashed potatoes, gravy, collard greens and corn bread muffin. My husband got the fried fish basked with hush puppies and cod. I myself would have chosen the catfish.
Through out meal laughter was floating out from the kitchen. Our beautiful waitress said that the laughter is an every day occurrence here. Such true happiness and joy just lifts everyone up.
The cook (Mitch) came out and asked me about my food. Love it when the cook does that. The cubed steak was good. But the collard greens were the best I have ever eaten in my life. I even ordered some collard greens to go. My greens had nice chunks of beef brisket in it. So yummy. You can taste when someone loves what they cook, as it comes out in the food. It's the reason I believe that when mom makes a sandwich it just tastes better (because she made it with love).
I found out the owners are Mitch and Gieshula. Love supporting mom and pop places! The environment here will lift you up if you are having a bad day. And sweep you off to a place with sounds of laughter, jazz and soul music to raise up a weary soul.

Read moreSimply put, this restaurant is a gift to the people of Reno and Sparks. With prices comparable to most restaurants with half the quality and personality, there isn't a reason to not come here. This is, hands down, my favorite restaurant in the area after only having tried it once. My friend and I had the alligator, frog legs, okra, chicken gizzards and fish po boy and every single bite was better than the last. I couldn't even talk because I just couldn't stop eating it. And this is FILLING food, so you get your money's worth and then some! And oh my, the lemonade is to die for and might be the best I've ever had. There is almost nothing that will stop me from coming here regularly as long as i live here, and if I move i will be here every time I am back in the city. You couldn't ask for more. But don't take it from me. PLEASE go try it for yourself. They are slowest usually between 2 and 4, but it's worth the wait if it's busy regardless. They also do takeout so you can order your food, go shopping at Scolari's next door and pick it up when you're done. A meal you could finish and be satisfied with for one person might run you $15-$20 for a drink, main dish and side after a generous tip and tax. Or you can do a la carte, which they conveniently have on the menu as well. Either way, it's worth your time. It's worth your money. And I doubt you won't want to come back. M&M's fan for life. 5/5 isn't...
Read moreLet’s start with the seafood gumbo, the broth has a good flavor. The shrimp were way overcooked not sure what other seafood was in it, but it had flavor the smothered pork chops. That brown gravy is hideous. The pork chops themselves have no flavor very disappointing. The barbecued ribs were decent probably use some kind of commercial barbecue sauce and they came lukewarm at best catfish was Probably the best thing out of the three, although the portions are very small, the mashed potatoes and gravy with the same brown sauce Not good macaroni and cheese macaroni way overcooked probably commercial as well. Collard greens are decent. The coleslaw and a potato salad are probably commercial definitely not southern. The basic problem here is that most of food has no flavor. They’re not using spices. They’re not using salt or pepper. I don’t know as far as the ambience goes. The owners are there. they were playing Spanish music at one time and a southern kitchen. I don’t think this place would pass a southern. On the Flavor meter all the food I had was probably a two or three at the most. I think if you go, you’ll be very...
