Pros -quick service, even tho the place was packed out -clean space, good ambience pretty good barbecue sauce (red vinegar based sauce) -collard greens were tasty -best thing we ordered was the smoked chicken (but only the breast meat, not the legs or wings) The bar inside is pretty cool, this is the farthest North I've ever seen a bushwacker on a drink menu before ! (And I LOVE a Bushwacker)
Cons -NON of our food was hot. Parts of the pulled pork were cold even. I would have given 3 stars if anything had come out hot. Pork was very dry. Smoked chicken legs and wings were obsurdly salty. I didn't ask, but it seemed as if the breast meat and legs/wings were all brined together at the same time; so while the breast meat was delicious, the wings/legs brined for much too long. I've never seen/tasted so much celery seed in slaw before. Green beans were a little onion-y, and would have been decent enough if they were hot. Mac and cheese was cold and tasteless This con is really a personal preference, but WHY sweet cornbread ??
I wouldn't recommend this place to a barbecue enthusiast - but if you don't have tons of barbecue preferences and youre close to downtown it would be fine for lunch.
If you love Carolina Barbeque off of Herons Circle, this place is a waste of time. We left wishing we had gone there instead - but hey, go to Moe's anyway, at least once and make your own decision. If we ever go back, it will be for Bushwackers and...
Read moreWe are fairly regular eating at this Moes. I edited my review based on my experience this evening. Once again I ordered a Pinot Noir to drink which was a selection on your system. Then was informed that you didn't have it, which you never do. I asked for a Cabernet Sauvignon which you generally have. I was told that you didn't have any reds and offered a white instead. Your Spartanburg team knows nothing about wines! You need to educate them on wine! And, they say that! If you are eating pulled pork a red really compliments that selection. When we go to the location in G'ville, I have never had an issue with ordering a red wine, and they know about wines there. Plus they have it! If it's going to be on your selections you need to stock it! Also my meal was not up to the usual tonight. My baked beans weren't warm and I ultimately ate a little bit of my dinner and took the rest home for my husband's lunch tomorrow! Not a good experience at all today! It will be a while before we return. A new BBQ restaurant is on the...
Read moreThe staff were friendly and the atmosphere at the Hub City courtyard was nice, but this was sadly far from good bbq. Everyone has a different taste, especially when it comes to what they like about bbq. For us, the pork was more "chunked" than pulled or sliced and did not have very good flavor, the brisket was very thick and chewy and not much flavor, the mac & cheese was very bland, the beans & hash brown casserole were ok. The biggest draw back for us was that there was only 1 bbq sauce. We are used to having a variety (sweet, spicy, smoky, mustard based, etc) so this one note bbq sauce that was very watery consistency was not impressive and did not suit the pallette of everyone at the table. Again, the staff had good customer service. They even gave us a small free sample of their "bushwacker" frozen drink. It was a sweet gesture and a very sweet "mudslide" type of drink. That small ramekin was like dessert, so we left pleased with the service, but just wished the...
