Basecamp kitchen - Indian and Nepali restaurant — Restaurant in Spearfish

My partner and I had a very satisfying dinner here traveling through Spearfish. I was a bit leary about ordering Indian food from a restaurant literally attached to a gas station but this place undeniably came through.

I ordered the Malai Kofta, which I have had at numerous Indian restaurants and theirs was impressive. They gave me 5 nice sized balls made of, among other things, cheese, potato, cashews, raisins and spices. The portion of sauce and rice is on par with other restaurants. Arguably the most impressive part was they really nailed medium spice. It was just spicy enough. My partner was also very happy with their food at mild spice level.

It was a takeout order, which they cooked up very promptly, and they supplied us with disposable plates and utensils and we ate at a picnic table outside.

The only potential knocks are the ambience inside the location if you are looking to dine in and the prices are a little steeper than what I am used to where I live (but they might be on par for the locale). Regardless, I highly recommend this...

I must say, what a find! This restaurant is a hidden gem to be sure! I am posting this review as I eat because i just have to share with everyone the flavors! THIS is real Indian cuisine. I ordered lamb vindaloo, my wife ordered tikka masala. It was relatively inexpensive for what you get. They make them to order, and the heat level can be changed with however you are comfortable, but even Hot is not too hot. The flavors are beautiful, the service is amazing and personal, and the entire thing leaves me wishing I could eat here every day. Decided to go here after reading all the reviews. I would have to agree with all the positive comments others have left previously. The restaurant is clean, our waiter was friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala and the person I was with had the Tandori Chicken. We also ordered Garlic Naan. Both main dishes were outstanding! You get a lot of food so you could share a meal or each person could get their own dish and you will be guaranteed a to-go box for a second meal at home.
