The Joy Center — Attraction in Spearfish

We have held our TRIO Student Support Services recognition banquet at The Joy Center for the past four years. In addition to the ambiance of the facility—from the beautiful fireplace to the gorgeous centerpieces on the tables, the staff are awesome in helping us plan and set up for the event. The name of this facility, “The Joy Center,” totally reflects the mood and the atmosphere that is important for our event. We showcase a video of our students and their accomplishments, which is a highlight of our evening. The audio-visual set-up is excellent, with the four large televisions for viewing and a room that consistently produces excellent sound. Definitely a five-star venue! SEDC held a monthly Board of Directors meeting in the Joy Center, recently, and it was the perfect location. The building is beautiful and the staff are friendly and accommodating. It's the perfect location for community meetings and gatherings.

SEDC also partnered with BHSU and TechStars to host the 2017 StartUp Weekend Black Hills. This was a top notch venue! The Joy Center's meeting room was an excellent place to set up our food buffets and the technological abilities in the Joy Center were perfect for our young entrepreneurs to set up shop. I've attended several events. A couple events as a student and a couple of private ones. One of the staff members was very rude to the transportation company who was simply trying to do there job and give people rides.

While a student, they banned tailgating in the parking lot, (and BHSU wonders why their retention rate is so poor, get a clue), and made people go to the Joy center to "tailgate". How is that even a tailgate??? Then, you had to pay $10 and all you received was a handful of chips, potato salad, and a hot dog. It was quite the rip-off.

The parking lot really needs two entrances.
