I was told by the Journal this was the best pizza in SD. It is not. First of all this place is hard to find. Inside the restaurant there are no windows, outside tables are all uneven and slanted. Nice flat high top area, can't eat on them though, they are only for drinks... no food customers allowed there. Pizza wasn't bad. Burned crust, especially where the many bubbles were, they became burned holes on the bottom. Don't forget to bring cash, they apparently don't take cards. Good selection of beer and wine, no beers on tap. If you are in Spearfish you might try it, but don't go out of your way. I will never go back.

Amazing pizza!!! Can't tell its sour dough until you get the crust, perfect crunch and fresh toppings hands down favorite is "the jeffersonian". Love the setting too, its a bit dark with a fireplace roaring and candle lit tables... our waitress was amazing friendly and quick 10 out of 5! Update: I have now been to dough traders 15 times in 4 months, not only does the pizza taste like the same deliciousness on a well made crust, but they make and sell bread, rolls, and cookies! My new favorite is the scargbrough fare!, pairs well with the chocolate beer!

Dough Trader Pizza creates purrrrrfect pizza:) The sourdough crust is nearly paper thin, yet still crisp, holding its shape as a vessel for the oh so rare appropriately portioned sauce, cheese and toppings. You will not find greasy, lumps of dough and cheese here, I guarantee it!!! Pictured: Betty Rizzo Dough Trader Pizza's Chef's are beautiful cosmic creatures and Spearfish is lucky they choose to reside here instead of their interstellar origins, I know this because their za's are other worldly!!! one love<3

Service so awful I didn't get to even try their food. Came in for lunch with my daughter. They were not busy maybe three tables all with their food already. We were told all the tables were dirty that were free and they would need to clean one. No problem. We sit down on their couch in the waiting area and 20 minutes later I finally go find the waitress and she has forgotten that we were there waiting at all and hasn't cleaned a single table. She quickly cleans a table and we sit down. She goes and collects money from another table then brings us menus. Not asking us for drinks She sets them down and walks away. We look over the menu for 10 minutes and she finally comes back. We order and ask for some water. After another 10 minutes she comes back over to the table to tell us that, "oh by the way we only take cash here." What!? I tell her we are traveling and don't have cash. She says they have an atm with a pretty big fee on it. I inform her I don't travel with debit cards for security and all I have is a credit card. She then tells me I need to leave. As I'm leaving I look for any sign or indication that they don't take cards and there is nothing posted. I have never been more...

What a mess. Walked in on a Wednesday night, were told to wait at the bar for a table and it would be just a minute. Sat at the bar for a half hour, nobody seated us and our server never once came up to us. Had to track someone down who finally came over and took our order. Waited another 40 minutes for an appetizer and one pizza. Had to complain again. Finally got our appetizer. Waited another half hour for the pizza which never came so we paid and left. The cashier didn't know what was going on and didn't even know what we ordered and she was our waitress! None of the tables around us had gotten their food and they were seated before us. Multiple people walked out. The bathroom was cramped behind the kitchen and it was almost impossible to get to as you have to walk through the server area to get to it. Just a complete mess. Appetizer was not worth $12. Can't say much about the rest of the food because we...

I visited this restaurant based on its rating on a Travel site. A few things to note for visitors is that it is cash only. However they do have an ATM available inside that has a fee. I have no doubt that the ingredients are fresh and the sour dough is delicious. However I was expecting more for the amount of toppings on the pizza. It was pretty small. The flavors were wonderful just not enough topping portions to truly appreciate. Prepare to wait about 25 minutes as it is made to order. I wasn't prepared for that either. I decided to sit on the patio as the weather this time of year is quite nice. But that didn't last too long because of the flies which in all fairness seems to be a thing in the area. No mosquitos but geesh the flies. The hostess was delightful and everyone was very friendly. For the price...I felt a little disappointed. They were giving away fresh whole lemons which I...
