Very mixed feelings about this spot. The food was extraordinary. The omelette was light as air; a delicately layered perfection. The German potato pancakes were sublime; savory, very complex flavors and also perfect by themselves, but they came with a ramekin of what tasted like home made apple butter. The oj was of course heaven.
The chef in this spot is worth her weight in gold. I could feel the attention to perfection in every bite. Nothing better.
But: they list "maple syrup" on their menu and it is NOT maple syrup. It is high fructose corn syrup with caramel coloring, like you get at McDonalds and Denny's. They could have written "syrup" but they intended to cut that corner and get away with it. That's pretty low rent as well as just disrespectful for this food, to put that cancer causing crapola on such otherwise exceptional food.
Ok so that's not a deal breaker, but it was unsettling and eyebrow raising.
Then, there were 2 upsales during my ordering. It wasn't a helpful, let-me-make-sure-you-know-what-we-have-and-done't-miss-it kind a thing. It was like . . . . I know you already ordered, and if you orderd what I am going to try to sell you, you'd be a pig, but I'm supposed to make you want to order more and bump this check up, so what about this other thing too?? You want one of those??(voice went up). . .No. I literally felt like I was at a window at the McDonalds(you wanna super size that?), and I don't eat there since I was a kid. . . . I ordered plenty, really, and very obviously. Y'know?? . I felt a bit assaulted by the total and shameless and artless lack of subtlty. But it wasn't till I was leaving and went to order something to take out that the upsale (from another employee - so this is standard manager's direction) just pissed me off. Really, ruined my meal. No the $5 cinnamon roll, on top of my large b-fast was plenty thanks.
Oy right? I mean how much do you have to spend to make them happy you showed up?? Lol!
PS? Some people with a LOT of money and no class, found a SUPER FOOD CHEF and put them to work making them money. The food has class, the atmosphere in this spot will never live up to. It's McDonalds mentality serving you 5 star food. The atmosphere is too bright and loud and. . . dunno but i was not all that comfortable.
This is the only time I can say this about a restaurant review: Despite that the food was really awesome and to die for, I will never go back. Maybe I'll order out, unless they upsale me when I do, then that will be the last order I make at this spot.
Somebody scoop up the breakfast chef and take her somewhere her work will...
Read moreAs someone who doesn't like eggs, I have a hard time finding a good breakfast place. I'm usually limited to generic pancakes or waffles. So for me, Little Euro was a wonderland of options! I got the sampler plate loaded with four different dishes, and I still I haven't tried half the non-egg options available on this menu. There are crepes, swedish specialties, a plethora of pancakes, plenty of waffles- it was great! The swedish ball pastries (I can't remember what they are called) are basically pancakes in ball shape, which is underwhelming plain, but with the provided syrups and sauces (blueberry sauce, yum!) they really shine. I highly recommend the orange juice. It is beyond fresh and tasty! Not only is it freshly squeezed in a giant machine that greets you as you walk in the door, but you can tell they paid attention to what kind of oranges they are putting in there. It was so delicious I downed two glasses while we were there, even though I usually have a hard time getting through one glass of anything. The staff was super friendly and professional, despite being so busy, which was definitely a plus. The restaurant itself is really bright and open despite the tight space that is typical of a popular breakfast place with as many tables squeezed in as possible. In other words, the seating was like Frank's Diner, or The Cottage, but it feels way more open and bright. Overall, it was a great place for breakfast that I would highly...
Read moreI loved the atmosphere and color in the dining area and restroom. Staff were friendly and it took a while for me to be seated and order, but I wasn't in a hurry. Once ordered my food came reasonably quick.
The portion of the Goulash plate looked like less than I wanted to eat and I was worried I would still be hungry but decided to order that anyway. I was surprised to be asked what side and what type of toast I wanted because they didn't appear included on the menu. I was also asked if I wanted a full or half portion, also not options I saw on the menu, and chose full.
I felt sick when the food came, I ended up with 3x what I could reasonably eat and left with two takeout boxes after finishing my breakfast. This raised my bill somewhat and left me feeling guilty about food waste.
I also looked for drink prices on both the food and drink menus but they were definitely not listed. Even though I would have ordered it anyway I was irritated when my coffee came to $4.00 because they weren't upfront about the surcharge.
I just moved in walking distance of this restaurant which came highly recommended. I thought the Goulash was delicious and I can see there is a lot of value here compared to other restaurants. Sadly I don't feel good about the experience which could have been avoided with better communication.
