If I could leave fewer stars, I would. This place is newer and probably working out kinks, but that is no excuse for yesterday's dining experience. I looked at the menu online and saw the blue bubbles indicating they could make almost anything on the menu gluten free. This is extremely misleading. It would lead one to believe that A.) They know what gluten is, B.) They communicate well about allergies and what does and does not have gluten, and C.) That anyone there has any idea, in the slightest, about what is happening. The service was friendly, but incredibly slow, the drinks were even bad, we were served food without flatware and had to ask multiple times. The server was unsure if the chips were safe and looked panicked, so she questioned herself out loud, tableside, 4 times, rechecked again with the kitchen multiple times. She then watched me and checked in after a few bites to "see if I had a reaction" which isn't how it works for celiac, but ok. It made me more concerned. We had 2 servers, neither of which knew what the other had done or said. I ordered food and made sure to remind them to mark it GF and celiac. After I ate, one server gasped and asked if I ate my food. I said yes. Why? He panicked and loudly said OMG, that wasn't gluten free. He then called the other server over. They loudly argued and panicked next to the table about how I ate something unsafe. It was a long, stressful situation. They called out the owner, who I was told was not fluent in English. He changed his mind 3 or 4 times on whether it had been safe or not, at one point saying it was not GF because they had lard and margarine in the beans. It was an awful, terrifying experience. If I had taken my son with peanut and tree nut allergies and had that experience, he might have had to use his epi pen and go to the ER. That kind of uncertainty, miscommunication, etc could literally kill someone. I could have been sick for days or even symptomatic for weeks!! I would never recommend this place! The food wasn't even that good. Please be safe and...
Read moreI will start by saying, it saddens me to have to leave this review!
Dos Gordos was amazing the first few experiences. Super friendly staff, excellent food, superb margaritas, and great atmosphere!
However, the last two experiences have totally changed that reflection.
About a month ago, the food was OK, our waiter was NOT friendly at all. Both of us made comments to each other that he must be having a bad day or something! At one point, he was so blatantly annoyed at simply having to take our order that my guest actually laughed out of disbelief. Later in this visit, a very sweet gal came out and asked how we were doing and if there was anything we needed. I took the opportunity to thank her for her kindness and let her know that it was the exact opposite experience we had been having the entire meal with our actual waiter.
This last trip on Sunday, December 1st is where it really went down hill for me. The service was actually phenomenal and that was literally the only thing that was good this trip. We ordered what we always order and were pretty shocked at the plates that came out. The Carne asada and shrimp plate had almost nothing to offer as far as those two main items go, mostly just rice and beans. The chicken and steak fajitas were equally as disappointing. I do wish I was joking when I say there were 4, tiny tiny pieces of chicken on top of the peppers, and same for the steak portion. We always order these same entrees, so we were very disappointed and surprised.
Next comes the worst part of this trip... We both were sick (yes, vomiting) upon arriving home. No, I don't think it was food poisoning as I know that takes time to set in, but whatever it was, was NOT good. My guest actually asked me, "do you think maybe this happened to us because we complained to the nice gal about the waiter last time, like someone messed with our food?" Because it was SO strange that we both felt ill so soon after eating, upon arriving home.
We were thrilled to find Dos Gordos and enjoyed it immensely until the...
Read moreMy family has been going to Dos Gordos since it opened and it has always been good service and good food. But up until tonight we have always dined in the restaurant. However tonight we had family coming to the house so we decided to go the take out route. So I went into the restaurant at about 3PM today and asked about placing a takeout order, which I was told was not an issue. I explained I would call in later to set up the takeout order, but was told their phone was not operating. So I said I would be back in around 5PM to place our order. Again I was told it was not an issue. I arrived at 5PM and was greeted by Julio. I explained I was there to place a takeout order. He immediately said "no" because they had "50" orders ahead of us. I.explained to him I had been in earlier and had been assured the takeout order was not going to be an issue. He was immediately cool and sarcastic to me. In a rude tone he said "seeing as you got approval earlier" he would take the order. I told him if it was an issue I would take my business elsewhere. He simply stated what's your order? I placed our order (as everyone was expecting dinner fro Dos Gordos, which up until tonight had been one of our favorite restaurants) and Julio's demeanor didn't change, he remained cool and unprofessional. As I waited for our order I watched as they kept bringing in large parties (w/o reservations) and were able to fill their orders (which I am sure were not preordered) without any issue. By placing a take out order I didnt take up seatting that others could now use and they still were able to sell their product bringing in income. We.have had Julio as a server before and he has always been decent, but after how he acted tonight I am undecided to if we will ever return. I guess our continued patronage will be dependent t on how the management responds. As of right now I will not be returning and I will advise others not to go...
