Restaurant Rating Out of 15 Stars: 12.8 Out of 15 Stars {Excellent - 'The Top' - Range}.
Reasoning:
{Note: Staff please don't treat me different because I'm writing this review. Almost no-one receives my full 15 stars}.
Customer Service:
When you walk in to Hogans, they treat you right. The atmosphere is mostly comfortable, and old fashioned style of the place puts me in more of a laid-back mood. The staff are friendly for the most part.
They do get busy at times - naturally - but that can't always be helped any place you go. (I suppose I'm more used to being asked then asking every time if I want something, which I guess is intended to contribute to the laid-back atmosphere but sometimes works in the opposite direction) -- nevertheless, staff are friendly and ready to serve without complaint, which should be the nature of every good business.
Prices:
They can be a little spendy. About $33-45 for a full breakfast depending on how much you eat.
There are some good pluses about the prices, such as free refills on coffee, and a better deal if you buy a meal (more food for less money).
Food Quality:
Excellent food quality. Second-best place to get waffles in probably all of Spokane.
Cleanliness:
The cleanliness is good, but sometimes leaves a little -- just a little to be desired. (Sometimes that cannot be helped, though -- as they are very busy from time to time).
People atmosphere:
The infrequent busyness of the place does not reduce the quality of the atmosphere. Most of the time it is peaceful, especially in the evenings. Even during some busy breakfast and lunch times, for the most part it is not very noisy there. Booths and bar stools are comfortable, and I suppose it would be a good place for to call to book a eating spot for a birthday or...
Read moreI waited to write a review on this establishment because I always like to see how they do in the long-haul...I've been there twice when it was really slow and once today when it was moderately busy. This time, we sat at the counter and had the fun honor of watching and talking to the chef. (Is he the owner? Don't know). He was engaging with my talkative, teenage son and I and made our food perfectly this time. My son's milkshake was made the old fashioned way and my breakfast was great as well. No complaints, really great experience! The girl working the floor and counter was great as well. The floor staff and busboys were friendly, made eye contact and smiled. The atmosphere is friendly and bright, with a 50's-style motif. The servings are plentiful, but not wasteful. It appears everything is made fresh daily and as I watched the chef pour Au ju' for sandwhiches at 4:30 pm, it looked and smelled great. The hamburgers were very meaty, stacked and were served steaming hot. Nothing sat under a light warming. The first veggie-omelet I had made was far too heavy on the red pepper and it over-powered the entire omelet. Yuck because I am just learning to even like peppers no matter what color. But, today, I asked for just a couple little pieces of pepper and he didn't even roll his eyes--which he could have. :-) . I am also glad that the few times I have been in that I have not had to listen to 50's music or muzak overpowering my experience, so everyone can enjoy the atmosphere even if that type of music is not your fav. Stop in here instead of the expensive hamburger place down the street. It's a gem just waiting to be...
Read moreWhat a huge disappointment. Our first (and last) time at Hogan's was an absolute let down. No senior, "lighter fare" or half order options on the menu. $3.29 for the worst tasting, extremely watered down coffee we've ever had. Food arrived ridiculously fast---but somehow arrived cold, as if it had been sitting for quite some time---? So that was concerning. Our over medium eggs had cold, raw, watery yolks---toast was cold, biscuits and gravy were all barely lukewarm. As we attempted to eat our cold and partially raw breakfast, we suddenly realized we ordered sausage gravy----but there wasn't any sausage. Correction....I poked around and found TWO tiny nuggets of "sausage" each about the size of a pencil eraser. The biscuits were reminiscent of canned refrigerator Grands....flat, gummy and tasteless. The "sausage" gravy was pasty and horrible....and no doubt straight from a #10 can. The 3 eggs and toast breakfast for $8.49 got us 3 of the tiniest (cold and extremely under cooked) eggs and ONE SMALL piece of toast! No joke....the eggs looked like quail eggs---basically one-biters. One egg on the ala carte menu is $1.99......so that means ONE SMALL 3 inch PIECE of cold toast is $2.50? I'm sorry---I realize food prices have gone up and businesses have had to charge more---but come on! There's no way your cold, under cooked, canned food----and ridiculously small portion sizes are anywhere close to being worth what you're charging. We would gladly pay a little more----for hot, quality food, cooked to order and served in decent portions. Hogan's missed the mark all around. Just plain and...
