2 stars because the meat was not rancid. I came on on a Thursday, at 2:28 pm. Lunch special runs from 11 to 3. But not for me. No, they don’t have any lunch specials. I ordered my 2 favorite things. Chicken Panang ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice level, and Spicy Beef Nam Tok, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. $14 each. For lunch. Please see photos. I asked to add spring rolls. $8, never mind. I ordered to go on a very warm warm afternoon, she never offered any water or anything. Didn’t ask what kind of rice, which was ok, because I wanted jasmine rice anyway. The interior is like a badly decorated ball park ticket counter. The Nam Tok had a little spice, maybe a 1.5, and the a Panang had none. It tastes like pumpkin. Like they had leftover pumpkin for another dish and they didn’t think I would notice. It has ONE, I counted, ONE red bell pepper slice and no other vegetable at all. The meat was cooked fresh today, that is the only reason for the 2 stars. For $28, that should be a dinner portion. Also, one of the best parts about Nam Tok is the crushed rice powder. But there is 0. And there is no mint, and there is no cilantro, there is no lime. No where resembles Nam Tok. . And they made it with lettuce, as some do instead of cabbage that stands up to the other ingredients instead if getting soggy in the first 5 minutes. ) I would say you may get a vague sense if what Thai food is supposed to be like, but wow, what a big surprise when you go to another place that actually serves everyone the same quality of Thai food . If you a appear to be too white and nerdy, you are going to be taken advantage of in many ways. ...
Read moreWe primarily try to always support local establishments. Tonight was the first time trying this place due to all of the raving reviews. We were very disappointed and will never return for the following reasons:
Quality & Flavor Price Very small portions that doesn’t justify the price point of all items
We had two orders of the chicken satay (flavorless), Tom yum soup (told them not spicy and our children couldn’t eat it - they can handle mild Thai to medium Thai spice level), pad see ew with chicken which was tasteless so we had to try to doctor it up so we could eat it, two orders of white rice (it’s a mixed grain of some sort), and the beef salad which was overpowered by an abundance of cilantro. Seventy dollars that we will never see again and about 80% of our food went in the trash.
Thai Bamboo, Taste of Thai, and Kuni are far superior in providing quality, flavor, authenticity, portions...
Read moreI got an invite to lunch to try out Phonthip and was excited because I've seen this place for quite some time and always wondered about it. It is a smaller restaurant, with low lighting and a traditional atmosphere. The service was great and the staff was friendly and efficient. I ordered Panang Curry with chicken, and I got a 3 star. It was portioned perfect for an individual meal and had a nice light spice. I wish I had asked for a 5 star, but I've been to other places that make it so spicy you sweat. Lol! It had a really nice flavor and was pretty tasty! My aunt ordered the pineapple rice with chicken. It was a generous serving and had a good flavor as well. She really enjoyed it. The iced Thai tea was so good and tasted the same as other places I've been. I will definitely be back. If you haven't tried this local little gem, you should...
