I love food culture, I cook myself all the time as it is something I'm very passionate about. My most recent visit to Waddell's was disappointing every step of the way. My wife and I decided to take our son there for dinner after a walk at Manito park. We won't be returning ever again. It was almost as if they were congruatively trying to give the worst service possible. The restaurant wasn't very busy so you would think there wouldn't be a decent wait time, or at least that's how every restaurant I've ever eaten at has functioned. We waited almost an hour for fish and chips, easiest food to make on the planet since you just dump it into a fryer, and an 8 oz rare steak. A steak that small should only take five minutes, its rare. On top of that we order a grilled cheese for our son, which was literally a pre cut slice of cheese on bread. So in other words the "chef" in the kitchen spent 50 minutes doing god knows what and the other 10 making our food. Worst part was our food was cold when we got it so who knows how long it was sitting in the window. We also had to remind the waiter, who wasn't even responsible for our table, to bring it to us. Our actual waitress was no where to be found the entire time besides taking our order and checking in after we received our food. Which is a ridiculous amount of time in between checking up with your table. Not once did we get refills on our beverages, and our other waiter, still not responsible for us, took care of our check because she was nowhere to be found again. The only person doing anything right was the waiter not even responsible for our table. I don't know who was managing the floor that night or if anyone was at all but whoever that person is needs to be kicked to the curb. I own a business myself and would be livid if I had a supervisor who couldn't keep a floor in check and a cook who stood around with a thumb up his/her butt. If you like going to a restaurant and being ignored, waiting too long for your food, hearing your child scream because their hungry since the cook takes an hour to make a grilled cheese, getting over charged for the worst food in the city and your waitress not give a crap; go to Waddell's. I don't expect perfect customer service, but I DO expect someone to earn my business. I didn't have to eat there, Manito Tap House was down the street and a lot of other restaurants, but I wish I hadn't. This...
Read moreI read the other reviews on poor service and I agree. It's not that they're bad people or don't care for the customer, it's just that their services methodology doesn't work very well. It's kind of a team approach - one person seats you and brings water, someone else takes a drink order (maybe), then a third comes for the food order. In our case, the second step was skipped and we got our drinks only after also ordering the food AND we were seated before another table and they got their drink order, got their drinks and ordered food before we ever saw a server.
The food was really good. My mom had the lamb hoagie (covered in cheddar and served with au jus) She said is was spectacular. I kept eating bits of my wife's cheese burger and it was cooked perfectly, very flavorful with a kickin house sauce. I had the blackened chicken pasta. The sauce on the penne was good, but a little too much cheese all around. Otherwise, good level of heat to the dish and a portion that was HUGE! Even the kids chicken strips were really tasty (yes, I ate some of their food too - I'm a pig, what do you want).
The beer selection was impressive and the tv screens in every direction are a nice touch if your keeping an eye on the game (even a tv in the bathroom).
We will go back, and we will recommend this place to friends. Yeah the service is a little slow, but once they get you in with a drink, they are pretty good about checking back to make sure...
Read moreTERRIBLE place! Went there with my Mom, sister and two nieces on Sunday. We all waited for the waitress to show up and take our drinks. When she finally came to our table she had a very poor attitude towards us. It took her 10 minutes to get our drinks. Then took her another 30 minutes to come back and check on us and take our order. (needless to say we all needed our drinks refilled and that did not happen). 20 minutes later we still had not received our food, our drinks, and the waitress did not come to check up on us. After of waiting for over an hour after we had put in our food order, I asked another waitress for our check. The manager came over to us, ticket in hand, visibly upset at us for asking for our check. When I told the manager/owner we were done waiting for our food and drinks (that still had not been refilled), he started yelling at me and telling me to just wait for our food. When I stood up to leave, the manager/owner got into my face yelling, "see ya!"
I am a 35 year old female, professional and I do not expect to be treated in such a terrible way, especially in front of my family. I would highly recommend NOT giving Waddell's your business. There are other great restaurants in Spokane that appreciate...
