Summary: Pros- Cute place, food is decent, tea was delicious Cons- VERY poor service; expensive prices for very little food that you have to split with the table; pop/rap radio does not match the atmosphere
Story: I have never left a negative review before, but this was not a good experience. I visited for the first time today with two friends. It was not at all busy- two tables of people and two waitresses. Our waitress was somewhat rude and inattentive and did not introduce herself or talk to us much at all and did not make eye contact. I do not think she was new, as I have seen her name (the name on the check) on many other reviews. The other waitress did seem friendlier and explained some parts of the menu to the guests.
We decided to order the full afternoon tea for each of us to get the full experience. It came with two pots of tea for the table, which we could switch out at any time, so that was nice. The tea was good, especially the Old Town Spice. However, our waitress did not bring us tea cups until we asked for them a while later, or cream or sugar for our tea. We were very surprised when she brought out the food. Even though we had each ordered our own- for 25 dollars each- it all came on one plate rack. Essentially, if I had been dining alone, I would have gotten the same amount of food for $25 as we got for $75 and had to split. I fully understand that English afternoon tea is not intended to be a big meal, but for $75 I don't understand why we were splitting the equivalent of one portion. The meal came with two scones, both of which were cold. We had ordered three meals, so there was not even a scone for each person. Additionally, the bottom plate was empty and we had not gotten dessert or fruit that was supposed to come with the meals. Our waitress seemed shocked when we asked her if we could get the rest of our food, and it took multiple inquiries until she finally brought it. She also did not bring us silverware or napkins until we asked. It was not busy.
We all left hungry and went to get lunch somewhere else, after paying for this meal first. I really wish our waitress would have explained the menu, with this restaurant being a different experience than most. I certainly would have ordered something cheaper that came with more food.
Please understand, my family owns a small business and I work at a family owned and operated restaurant. I know you have to make money and it can be a struggle, and I know being a waitress can be difficult. However, operating a business this way is going to lose customers. I am hopeful that this was just an off day and this is not how things...
Read moreYou have never had to make reservations here before my mother went there at 12 o’clock on Sunday for seven of us. They told them that you needed reservations and my mom asked if we could come back later in the day. They said no there’s no room for us I turned around and I called and I asked and they said we take walk-ins at 12:45 I said can I please put my name down for 1245 or seven of us? The girl took my name and I specifically asked again, we’re gonna be there at 12:45 with seven of us is that right? She said yes we will accommodate you. We showed up there at 12:45 and the girl specifically said I can’t find your reservation. I said I gave my name I called we don’t have room for you. I told you on the phone That we couldn’t help you which was a lie. I told her I specifically talk to you guys and I told you seven people I said I repeated that twice to you. She said I never heard seven. I said yes I specifically said she said no you did it which I did. My daughter-in-law were there with me and hurt me Asked him then you need to clean out your ears. How do you not understand? She says we’re all human and all she kept saying to me is we’re all human. We’re all human. I will never go back there. We used to go there all the time I will never go back they can not get their act together and the restaurant when we went was Half empty so tell me there was no room. as per the response from the owner first of all, I never came into the restaurant before I called. That was my mother that came in when I called. I specifically said there would be seven people. I was assured twice that you could accommodate seven people I even said to the person that answered the phone. It’s gonna be seven people at 12:45. Yes, we can accommodate you and when I came in. I never cursed or used to follow language with anybody I said clean your ears. I never said anything that was bad. All I got was they were very rude to me and my family , all the girl kept saying to me as I’m human I’m human I’m human so you are very mistaken. This post is going to stand and I will advise everybody not to come to your establishment because your lying and your...
Read moreThis cute little place is probably great for a "special tea party". I made what I thought to be a lunch reservation for a party of 5 at 11 am. When I was asked for a cc to secure the reservation I didn't think much of it. I should have. When we were seated at our table there was confusion over what the waitress (who by the way was very good) said. As it turned out, my lunch reservation was for "full afternoon tea service". It should have been explained to me that I was booking a $32.00 per person tea when I made the reservation. I made the reservation in order to assure we would have a table when we arrived. I asked manager or owner (I'm not sure which) if it could be switched because we wanted to order off the menu since it was our first visit. She reluctantly agreed to change it. At the end of our lunch, I apologized for the misunderstanding. She explained that generally, when a reservation is a "no-show" there is a 1/2 price charge of the total. She then offered to only chagge me 1/4 of the price to which I agreed. However, I believe it was her sesponibility to ask if my reservation was for a "tea" or clarify what I was making a reservation for. If, as she said, "since we did not bring the sandwiches to your table we can still use them" why did there need to be a charge at all? She was not out anything. No one was waiting for a table, and we all ordered lunch and drinks. The food was not impressive at all. The only positive thing about our visit to the Tea Kettle Cafe was the time spent with friends. The five of us senior citizens agreed that we will not be returning to the Tea Kettle Cafe. Just be sure if you make reservations you know what...
