Abelardos Mexican Fresh — Restaurant in Springfield

Avoid going on your lunch break at all costs!

Placed an online order at 12:36, text message said food would be ready by 12:55 – 1:05. Got to the restaurant at 12:56 and noticed the drive through line was kinda long (5-7 cars).

If you didn’t know, there is no door you can enter, it’s drive through only.

Pulled up to the speaker where you place your order to let them know I was there for a pickup. Please keep in mind, there are several drive through style windows by the menu / speaker, that open. I was told I’d need to wait in line and pick up my order at the next window. Ok, well now my food is going to be cold, what’s the point of ordering a head of time?

Why couldn’t they just open the window and hand me my food without having to wait?

By the time I got to the window to get my food it was 1:18 (22 minutes later). I told the lady I was here for my pickup and she asks my name. Gave her my name and she said “ok, hold on”.

4 minutes later she came back, opened the window, smiled (like she was in shock) and said “oh, sorry, just a minute”. 4 minutes after that she handed me my food.

It hadn’t even been made, from an order I placed 50 minutes prior. I only ordered 1 burrito.

I know for a fact it wasn’t made because two minutes after I left, I got a text saying my food was ready for pick up.

I gave two stars because the burrito was big, and there were napkins in the bag, quality was mediocre at best though. I know this place gets a ton of good reviews, but I honestly don’t think many people in Springfield know much about food, at least good food. Yeah, it’s better than Taco Bell, but………….

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Abelardo's Mexican Fresh, located just off Jefferson in Springfield, Illinois, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience!

My wife found a twist tie in her nachos this last time.

The staff is very cold. All of them have been since going there these last 3 years of living here. I moved here from San Diego so I know it's not a cultural thing.

The amout of food for the price isn't too good and it looks like it's put together without any standards whatsoever.

They will mumble into the mic when you order. And at this point, I'm assuming it's on purpose to mess with certain people.

I will be waiting for my food and people will pull up behind me, someone will come out and hand them food, and they will drove off. This has happened at least 5 times in the 10 times we have went there.

I definitely do not recommend this place as it is being run now. Which is a shame because it's the only Mexican fast food restaurant that resembles what I was used to back in San Diego.

Hopefully they don't spit in our food.
