China Star — Restaurant in Springfield

Absolutely the most awful experience I have ever had. It smelled like a sewer around the soda machine when we got our drinks. We almost went to a Thai restaurant where it’s sit down and a bit nicer. We opted for this place thinking it would be less expensive. We were wrong. We ordered their pineapple stir fry with chicken. I’ve had this dish over the years at different places and prepared slightly different at each. Never has it been served like this place. It was a huge gross serving. The chicken was in chunks that almost looked boiled and slimy. Not breaded or fried in any way. We were given a big bowl of starchy dried white rice in a side bowl and this was the most disappointing and unappetizing dish I have ever been served at a Chinese restaurant or any restaurant for that matter. I tried to eat mine because it was so expensive but I gagged a couple times. It had no sauce on it except a hint of salty/garlic slime that maybe rolled off the pieces of chicken. We usually call in our orders and pick up at the restaurant. When you call ahead you can expect it to “be ready in ten minute.” They never keep us waiting. We even love to dine in once in a while. You can always count on the food being just as amazing either way you take it. You still can expect it to be ready in 10 minutes or less. They serve it to you in these dishes that are so pretty in my opinion. They’re simple dishes, but I still like the aesthetic they bring to the presentation. They offer self serve drinks and utensils. Chop sticks available behind the counter if you ask for them. The first and last thing you see when you enter and exit are the beautiful plants they always have on display. I also like that you can see the food being prepared in an open kitchen right behind the counter. My go-to dish is always Shrimp Broccoli that has a delicious brown sauce, tasty jumbo shrimp and comes with a generous side...

I've been going to China Star for years. They really do have the best tasting Chinese food in Springfield. The only problem is that they intermittently use flavor enhancers such as Accent or MSG. I have a relative who is extremely allergic to MSG. There wasn't any issues a couple of years ago, but lately China Star has been adding the MSG to their dishes again and it's caused some major health issues with my relative.
