Great Wall Restaurant — Restaurant in Springfield

My wife and I have eaten here three times. As the closest Chinese restaurant to where we live, the location has been what kept us coming back. Each visit, the food has been more disappointing. Our last visit was very disappointing between the quality of food, what we got for our money and the service. My wife asked how much to add broccoli to her Orange Chicken plate, the waitress said this could not be done. My wife then asked how much for a side order of plain steamed broccoli, the waitress said they could only make a full order of broccoli which would cost $9.00. Needless to say we did not purchase the broccoli.

Once home we began consuming our meals, my wife with the Orange Chicken and myself with Mar Far Chicken. The Orange Chicken was not completely cooked. On multiple pieces, the fried breading was still very doughy on the inside resulting in a soggy texture and gross taste. The Mar Far Chicken was unlike any Mar Far Chicken I have ever consumed. It was roughly 87% breading with 13% chicken, and even with this poor chicken to bread ratio, the breading was over cooked and the snippets of chicken within were dry.

If I talk about the rice, I may seem to be complaining too much. I'll just leave it as disappointing too due to lack of flavor and vegetables which are normally part of what I consider Fried Rice. I honestly feel we would have got better food at half the cost at the Safeway Deli, or even frozen section.

We give Great Wall an extra star simply due to the helpfulness of the waitress/owner. Each visit here, the restaurant is vacant, I'm unsure if the downturn in their food is an indication of how their business is doing, if so I am saddened because my wife and I liked this place on our first visit, but may have been driven away permanently on...

I am amazed at how many good reviews this place is getting. I've only been there once however that is 10 times more times that anyone should go. Their food was absolutely disgusting. I went in during prime dinner hour and they were completley empty, which should have been a warning sign! We ordered a variety of dishes, yet all equally as horrible. THEY HAD THE AUDACITY TO PUT EVERYTHING WE HAD ORDERED IN THE MICROWAVE 20 SECONDS AFTER WE ORDERED OUR FOOD. All of the food was heated in a to-go box, which is obvious because parts of the styrofoam was beginning to bubble. The food was recieved very fast, but a what cost? Nothing here is fresh, including the environment which usually is not relevant but this very much aligns with their food. I usually dont write reviews because I would rather have an experience, either good or bad, than always have a state of curiosity. if I could, i would rate this place a HEARTY ZERO. Hate to leave a bad review but I ordered the beef and broccoli. There were two tiny pieces of beef the size of my fingertip and I’m not exaggerating! How was that acceptable to leave the kitchen? The taste was okay. The crab puffs were not good at all. All of the food was sub par or less. Also I ordered mar fat chicken and they did not include the sauce, only sweet and sour. That’s not mar far chicken… I called and asked to be refunded for the beef and broccoli and she said they’ll just double my beef next time. $14 for 4 tiny toddler-bite-size pieces? I’ll pass.
