Hae's Bakery & Coffee Shoppe — Restaurant in Springfield

This review is specific to the Wabash location. I struggle, but I keep trying. I have been there 4 times in the last 3 months. Three of which the drinks where either made wrong or missing ingredients. Even today, I got the featured latte and it didn't look as pictured. It was missing the sprinkles on top and this was featured for the week. In the past, I have had beverages missing cold foam and different add ins. Based on other reviews, this doesn't seem new.

In addition, the staff seems disinterested. Upon one visit, I watched my drink sit in the window, while the young girls that were supposed to be working chatted and talked amongst themselves. They finally acknowledged me so I could get my iced drink (that was sitting in the sunlight) and pay.

I want to support local. I keep trying. But I think the issue lies in the customer service and the staff's attention to detail. The young ladies working do not seem interested and I feel it is reflective in customer service and quality. I certainly wish the organization luck. I just think this location needs a bit more support.

8/12/2025 --- Update

So I stopped in to try again. Unfortunate mistake. There was already a line of about 3/4 cars when I joined. I waited 5 minutes without any movement at 7:00 AM (shouldn't be too busy). I left the line along with several others. Drove past the window and AGAIN 3 teenagers talking to each other and on phones.

I'm sorry, but customers will not continue to be ignored by people who don't care. If you aren't interested in this location, don't have it. I'm sure the overhead is not cheap. Focus on the other locations that you can...

The Haes on Wabash Ave in Springfield is a place to avoid unless you enjoy your time being absolutely wasted by staff. Today during a visit there I noticed 2 things. One, they decided to be as slow as Christmas and only take a single order at a time. Two, the staff or atleast the lady they had at the window need to learn a bit about customer service. The worker at the window gave me the option to tip and when I decided against it, because she already was being off 🙄, she lost the kindness in her tone. That's fine but then she handed me a drink that not only wasn't fully closed and started spilling everywhere, but then started to giggle at the mess it created and refused to give any napkins for the mess she created. HAE'S is so polished that you wouldn't guess it is a locally owned business. This was my first visit and will definitely go back. My friend wanted someplace where we could sit, so a drive-thru coffee was out. There's 5 or 6 good sized tables. They have a really nice drink menu of fun flavor combinations. You should go for that alone. But the sweets were good too. We ordered a big cookie and piece of butter cake, which were excellent. And I'm a butter cake snob! There was a hodge-podge of a selection of sweets, which may suggest the selections change rapidly. I personally like that set up when there's often new choices. Best surprise was the staff were very friendly and personable. From my experience, I'd bet it partially comes from being part of a locally owned community...
