I'm not sure what's going on but this visit wasnt as good as our previous visits. I feel like hinodes has slowly been going down hill. As soon as we got there we noticed it was busy, however several groups got up and just left. We watched a group that was already seated get up and leave. Probably should have taken the warning then. When we sat down I noticed I didnt have a fork, no big deal, I asked the waitress in the beginning and she never brought 1 out. We had to ask another waitress. This was after the fact they brought my sushi out. I wasnt offered chopsticks and It was obvious I didn't have anything to eat my sushi with, but I was patient and waited 10 minutes until finally I had to ask another waitress and that's when I also asked her for a fork. The sushi was alright, I hate complaining, normally the weewowwow is much better. Not sure what happened tonight but I got sick and immediately lost my appetite. Couldn't eat the rest of my meal. However our chef was awesome. He was very talkative and funny. I did try to eat the food he gave me and it was good but he noticed I wasnt able to eat everything. I just told him that I've been sick. I didnt want to offend him. He seemed really great. He knew what he was doing, even though he joked it was his first time lol even though our waitress seemed very distracted and not so on top, she was nice. Our meals were all correct, she got our drinks right. She did seem overwhelmed. My biggest thing however, In the beginning, she brought out our drinks and spilled all over them in the floor. No biggie, accidents happen, however the waitress who was helping her, she brought in this weird squigy mop thing, and she legit swept all of the soda and drinks, right off the tile and into the carpet. I notice they are going through renovations but wow. Hope you guys either plan to replace the carpet or are going to clean it. We were right by a door and all I could think was all that sugar in the carpet is going to attract bugs and ants, which are bad this year! Another customer across the table made a comment to her and She just kept pushing it all into the carpet, laid a few rags down and called it a night. 😩 from the customers view it seemed really gross. It didnt help that the table was dirty when we sat down and the carpet behind us was dirty with shrimp that had been thrown at customers and not picked up. Idk I think from now on we will go to nakatos. We had issues the last time we came out too with our food and my dad made a comment that he felt it wasnt as nice as it used to be. And for a Saturday night, it wasn't as busy, there were like 4 open tables in the back and I've never seen it so empty. I'm giving it 3 stars because like I said, our chef was awesome. Entertaining, nice, funny,...
Read moreHORRIBLE! Let us set the scene. Date night Saturday night going out to hinode it's decently busy we arrive and are told it will be a 40 to 45 minute wait. Not a big deal we don't mind waiting we've been waiting to come here all week, what a nice surprise when we get called back 20 minutes after waiting. We arrived at our table order our drinks order sushi and wait. We get our drinks we get our soup we get our salad all is fine. Our Sushi arrives right as the cook arrives. Sushi is phenomenal, as the cook gets started he drops two eggs on the floor kicks them under-the-table says it's all part of the show. He drops a spatula twice, it happens we get it, says it's part of the show. Waitress never comes back to offer a drink refill to my husband who ordered a beer. Chef then begins cooking the rice and the noodles doing an okay job not the best but okay. Here comes the meat he pulls a tray out of his cart almost dropping it on the floor. He then puts the meat on the grill starts cooking everything up. As he starts cooking the steak for a family of three next to us he ends up covering them in pepper to the point where he is now scraping pepper off of the steak. The wife is now sneezing after he puts the steak on her plate because there is so much pepper. He finishes cooking the chicken where he put way too much teriyaki sauce where it's dripping and drenched. Finishes the shrimp. Everybody has their food except me and my husband we have gotten the $54 dinner for two meal it was missing or filet, we got our chicken we got our shrimp the highest dollar item on that was a filet. My husband goes to the manager lets him know of what has been going on the terrible service we receive from the waitress the horrendous skills of the cook and the manager comps the filet so now we are paying for teriyaki drenched chicken and a meal that is definitely not to the par of how we have viewed and have experienced hinode in the past. We understand that we ended up taking food home so we didn't expect to get our entire meal comped however we probably will not be eating or meal as when we did try it in the restaurant it was mediocre at best. Not to mention when the chef was cleaning the table he put too much water on it and ended up splashing the dirty stove top water onto the table at the gentlemen's plate next to mine. We will not be returning to hinode in Springfield and would not advise any visitors to attend until they seem to get their staff more trained. I've worked in Food Service before I understand it was busy but this was...
Read moreFrom the moment we walked in it was a disappointment. Hostess was very rude. There’s a sign on the door saying wait times are longer due to being short staffed. Yet, there was plenty of employees just standing around. We were told a 30 minute wait. Even though the place was empty on a Tuesday. They were just waiting to see if more people would come to fill a table. So if nobody else came in, we waited for nothing…? The restaurant was riddled with employee’s togo cups, I saw 8, which is unsanitary and shows poor management. I should’ve left then. By the time we were sat, received drinks, and ordered (over an hour later) it was getting close to closing time. Our chef didn’t bother doing anything entertaining. I’m guessing because it was pushing closing time at this point. He was confused about the meats and who they belonged to. He asked my husband if we wanted ours split. We assumed because we got different proteins, he was going to split them between us. Not until he gave away one order of our scallops to the other guests at the table did we realize he thought we were splitting one meal. He was about to split one filet between my husband and I and thought there was an “extra” one on the grill. I had to say something before more of our food was given to other people. The food was cooked with no seasoning or sauce, it was extremely bland. The rice was undercooked. The mahi-mahi was fishy and inedible. The salmon in both of our sushi rolls was an unappealing color. We didn’t eat it for obvious safety reasons. All “crab” was imitation. Yet didn’t specify that or use “krab” wording instead. So it’s misleading and disappointing. I would have never ordered sushi had I known it was not made with real crab. The ONLY good thing was that our waitress was super friendly. I hope she decides to work at a different establishment. I can imagine how poorly ran this restaurant is, it has to be affecting her tips.
One word of advice. Every other Japanese steakhouse sits their guests as they come in. Giving them the opportunity to order drinks, appetizers, and sushi while they wait for the table to fill up. Not leaving them on a waitlist in the lobby. We drove an hour to eat here for our date night. This was our first and last visit to this...
