First there should be a no star on food since this last time we did not get seated or served, but in the past the food has been exceptional and have always enjoyed our meals at Leong's. But since David Leong passed away and Wing, his son, has taken over the place has gone downhill.

The last time we visited (and our last time going here) we came for lunch after Church and the time in the afternoon was approximately 1:15pm. The place was not very busy and could not understand why they would not seat us. There were tables empty and we waited for 30 minutes before I spoke to the hostess again about tables that were adequate for the 5 of us. The hostess stated that there was not enough large tables to seat us, but when looking from the wait area, behind the hostess stand in the the main lobby straight to your left when entering the door there were plenty of 4 seat tables available with empty tables sitting next to each other that could have been brought together to accommodate us. I even looked to the right of the hostess stand on the other side of the privacy screen wall and there were tables there as well that were available that had 4 seats at the empty table and tables besides those tables that were empty as well that could be brought together. She explained it is not customary to bring tables together and there was not a waiter/waitress taking care of those sections and a table large enough to accommodate us. There was a large table with a party of 8 currently seated and she said that they were going to be leaving soon and she would seat us there. Another 15 minutes went by and the party did not leave but during that wait, a gentleman came in as a party of one and was seated in the 4 chair table that we were told that they were not seating for and a waitress came and took his order. Of course I approached the hostess again and asked her why he was seated at a table of 4 chairs that had a table of 4 chairs right next to him that was empty, and was taken care of when she had just said there was not a waiter or waitress taking care of that section. She said just be patient and we will be seated soon when the party of 8 leaves. I even asked her if there would be an issue to borrow a chair from another table to add to the end of the table to make it 5 chairs and she said again that we could not do that. So the hostess did not try to accommodate us in any way to seat us after waiting 45 minutes.

Being reasonable, there were many options to bring a empty chair from another empty table to make a 5 chair table, tables that were empty next to each other that could have been brought together or a waiter or waitress which was evident that was available with the one gentleman who was seated and taken care of that was explained to me before that there was not a waiter or waitress available to accommodate us. So we left and we have not gone back again. That was our last experience and by looking at the reviews its not that common, but they burned us and hope they do not burn you.

We left and went to Hong Kong Inn on Sunshine and enjoy this place very much since then. Alton Brown, Atlanta based TV personality, Author, and Food Scientist, who has hosted Good Eats, Iron Chef America, and Cutthroat Kitchen reviewed this place and found it to be the best American Style Chinese place out of three he reviewed while he was here in Springfield. I guarantee you try this place you will be impressed. And their eggrolls are to die for and they don't have peanut butter in them. The Wontons here actually have a large portion of meat in them,...

First time in the place and definitely a disappointment. Let me explain my situation, I was down the road with a flat tire and needed to kill some time waiting for help so I went to have a bite to eat and drink, nothing out of the normal. First off from the time I walked in the door, I had to ask to be seated as everyone kept ignoring me clearly waiting at the front, second the “main older lady” that I believe is partial owner (I’m sure they wear different colors daily but this day she was wearing red) anyways absolutely rude from the start, it was almost as she was angry that I wanted to order a drink but wasn’t quite sure on food or what I wanted to eat, I shook it off because I wasn’t really sure at first, but that was the first visit she gave me (that took around 20 minutes for her to come to me) Mean while I get my drink, a Mai Tai (which was like syrup without the alcohol I know this because I watched the second Mai Tai be made by the dude in the kitchen, (two completely different Mai Tais, actually tasted like a little bit of alcohol and not a bottle of syrup. All through the time I’m dealing with this roughly and hour or so, not one single time did someone come to me and check or see if I needed anything, not one time did someone ask if I was ready for drink (my drink sat empty for a solid 15 minutes) and not to me nit picky but your egg rolls that are the size of pointer finger are awful, take some pride in being what is supposed to be one of the best Asian restaurants in Springfield (I know this because the gentleman that paid for his to go order while I was waiting at the bar, I asked him if he comes regularly as in which he did and said the food was amazing especially the cashew chicken. I was excited. Just before I was disappointed. Definitely will not be back I wish this place the best of luck in the future and I hope you use the review to better your restaurant and business...

I have been wanting to try to try this for awhile and it was well worth the wait. My boyfriend treated me to an early dinner and when we went in there it was quiet and the employees were very friendly. We sat in a booth and the menus were very nicely done. There is a little bit of everything not just Chinese to appeal to all people. They have a great deal of two dinners for $30 so that is what we decided to order. There are several different options, but I choose the beef broccoli and of course my boyfriend had the cashew chicken. It also comes with two bowls of a soup, an appetizer, and a dessert to share. We got egg drop soup, crab rangoon, and the lava cake for dessert. The soup was very delicious and was not watery or bland which can be a problem I have ran into. The cashew chicken was really good as was the beef broccoli. Both were cooked very well and plenty of taste. The lava cake was ooey gooey delicious and came with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and some whipped cream that I could eat by the spoonful. It was very light and creamy. The lava cake had delicious chocolate oozing out of it once you cut into it with a sprinkle of strawberry on the plate. Chris was our waiter and he was fantastic. He was super friendly and easy to talk to. He was not overly attentive which was extremely nice and checked several times to make sure that everything was still good. I had hot tea and get checked to make sure the pot was still hot enough. He is definitely the waiter to get when you go there. We saw the creator of cashew chicken, David Leong walking around talking to the customers. He seemed very nice and friendly and the employees love to work for him and respect him. Yes I definitely recommend going here to eat and if you have not tried it, you...

I'm so disappointed because my bf used to live in Springfield and it was his favorite place. We havent been down in a while but it was our place to go. We were really looking forward to it. Not only was this terrible for what we know of Leons reputation but it was worse than I've had at almost any Asian cuisine. Our wait service was bad. Communication was good but attentiveness to detail was awful. They were not busy as it was Monday at 8pm but still somehow got the feeling we were rushed. The waitress cordial. She was prompt taking our order and getting our drinks. But once food came out, we were on our own until the check. The food was sad. We could eat most of it so did not get a one star but waa close. Four of us split an appetizer and barely choked down one dry and undefiled crab Rangoon. I wish i had gotten a picture of it all. The portions were small or mostly rice/noodle but it was good we weren't complaining. Until we got the bill. Four plates and one appetizer was about 100 bucks. None of us ordered anything fancy. Chicken dishes mainly and i was the only person to not finish. The plates were normal size (even on the small side for Asian cuisine) and Definitely not 20 dollars in quality. I mentioned rhe crab Rangoon because we had some left between all of us and the reply was "so you're done with it". After a 20 min wait and going to the counter, we finally paid for it all and still tipped but won't be eating here again. I had to go to the front and stop two people just to pay and get a bag. Overall disappointed doesn't begin to convey how we feel about something that used to be so amazing.

Springfield Cashew Chicken, an Americanized Chinese dish inspired by the culinary innovation of Chef David Leong. Leong’s is the only Chinese restaurant in Springfield MO that I have dined at, or ever will. My wife and I had meals at the original Leong’s many years ago, at its old location. Then, my introduction to the famous Springfield Cashew Chicken. It Is still one of my favorite meals. I have found the dish on the menus of Chinese restaurants across Missouri and Oklahoma. Each restaurant has a little different spin on the meal, but none as good as the original. My wife and I had the delicious meal again on this visit, with the best loaded hot and sour soup I have ever had. The meal came with unusually delicious fried rice and a choice of soups and sides. In addition to the hot and sour soup, we both had the Crab Rangoon. A wonderful meal! Check the pictures. It is a big spacious restaurant, with colorful Chinese decorations. Several walls are covered with newspaper and magazine articles about the life of Mr. Leong, and recognition for the restaurant’s food. Comfortable tables and booths. The restaurant can handle a crowd. The service is fast and efficient. If you have a few minutes, read about the life of this interesting Chinese American. You can find his life history summarized on the menu cover, but the better read is the newspaper articles posted near the entrance. The food is fabulous!
