We just spent two nights here and it was okay; it wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything to rave about.
Positives - the staff was quite friendly at every encounter. There is a discount (Warren) movie theatre (called The Palace) next door which is easily walked to. There is also a pub just across the street, again, that you can walk to and the staff and clientele were all lovely.
The A/C worked quite well and the refrigerator has both a freezer area and removable shelving so we could fit our cooler inside (which preserved our ice for the weekend). The black-out drapes are always appreciated, as we do enjoy our sleep when we get the opportunity!!
Negatives - Upon walking in our room, I noticed an odd odor. I think it might be the deodorizer they use for the carpeting, but it was a bit obnoxious. I noticed it in the center stairway, as well.
THERE IS NO ELEVATOR. THERE IS NO ICE MACHINE ON THE 2nd FLOOR.
There are very few outlets in the room. Someone previous to us had unplugged the clock to probably plug in their charger for their phone. That's what he ended up doing, and I plugged mine in at the vanity area outside the bathroom. The television is quite dated and the channels that were listed in the visitor binder in the room were not actually available. I had to scroll through the channels a few times to find the local station to watch the network news programs.
The bed is stiff as a board, but the pillows and duvet are very comfortable. The pillows are compacted to where they look like accent pillows you'd have on your living room couch, but we had a two-queen room and used six of the eight pillows afforded us. Not sure what was up with the bedspread, but it made me itch.
The breakfast - we went down for breakfast the first day, but didn't bother the second day. The "deluxe" in the continental breakfast is the pancake machine, I imagine. It was fun to watch it work and he had pancakes. Otherwise, it's just the typical breakfast with cereal, toast/bagels, biscuits w/gravy, hard boiled eggs, pastries, some fruit. I was disappointed that there was no bacon/eggs - "deluxe" made me think that there would be more.
We'll spend the extra bit to stay somewhere...
Read moreI stay in Choice Hotels 5-15 times per year. If I'm in charge of booking - I don't stay in any other brand. I was very disappointed in the poor service & aesthetics at this location.
At 9:30 p.m. I reported to the front desk that the tank on our room's toilet was leaking. The person apologized that he didn't have anyone that he could send but would provide extra towels to absorb the water. He also stated that he would leave a note for the day staff. I felt like we should have been offered an alternative room or at least told if there were no other rooms available.
When we returned to our room the ice bucket that we had placed under the leak was full. Rather than let it drip all night we turned off the water between the wall and the tank ourselves so that the floor/wall wouldn't get ruined.
At check-out, I asked the day-staff if they had been informed and they had not. She stated she would advise the housekeeper so that she could try to fix it. As we exited the hotel, I asked the housekeeper if she had been informed and she had not.
In addition to that issue, upon entry, there were gum wrappers in the sink and on the floor. The refrigerator made a horrible noise and the beds were terribly uncomfortable. The sink was terribly cracked, the bathroom door hinges were rusty, and there were gouges in the walls. When I mentioned to the day desk clerk the poor condition of the room she mentioned that they were just finishing the cosmetic portion of a remodel and would soon be moving to replace fixtures.
I would recommend waiting until those items are taken care of before...
Read moreThis is our go-to hotel in Springfield, but this was our worst stay there. First, we were double-charged for a rollaway, which I didn't discover until checkout. |The room, supposedly an accessible one, looked like it was a regular room that had been retrofitted for accessibility. The sink and mirror were still at regular level, making it difficult to brush teeth, etc. The shower floor was exceedingly slippery and, when we asked about it, we were offered extra towels to put down on it. The shower drain was disgustingly filthy, but rest of shower was clean. The rest of the room was clean.| We had to move furntiure in order to fit in the rollaway, and that meant nobody could get to the desk and had difficulty getting to the drapes. |The breakfast was ordinary, just what you'd expect, but we did get to eat. It closes early, at 9 am.|I think the worst part of our stay was that, when I reviewed this stay on the Choice Hotels website, the manager got a copy and emailed me. He said the room meets ADA standards....ok, maybe the law, but not the spirit, I say.|He basically went on, defending the hotel and its policies. THEN, he said that if I didn't like the breakfast, I should have gone to a diner!! Great....encourage your patrons to go elsewhere. He basically said that the breakfast was complimentary, so I had no room to complain. I hadn't really complained, just said that it was ordinary. |Overall, it was a good stay and we hope this was just a bump in the road for them. I'm guessing we'll stay there again and hope it is better. If not, there are plenty of...
