I’m disappointed with my son’s haircut & experience on 9/13/25 with Alyson “senior barber” at Hudson Hawk Magers Crossing. I had wanted Andrea to cut his hair but when I called the woman said she’s not there on Saturdays so I chose Alyson because she is listed as a senior barber. I explained that my son only needed a trim and that he has widows peaks and his hair can’t be cut too short or it would stick up so she said she would leave a note for Alyson. I told her I wanted him to have the Original Cut.
It looked like a really nice place & it was our first time. When Alyson came out she didn’t look too happy to see us but I had hoped she would be friendly to my son. I explained to her about his widows peaks & how his hair will stick straight up if it’s too short & I was clear that I didn’t want it to be too short or stick up. I showed her a picture from his last cut in June from Supercuts and told her it didn’t stick up with that cut because the lady there saw that it needed a little length on the top and it turned out great.
Alyson told me that the lady that took the call had him down for the Stay Sharp service, which is more expensive, but I told her that wasn’t what I had asked for so she said if it didn’t take very long then she would charge me for the Original Cut. Then I saw Andrea come out to meet another kid & I was really surprised by that since I was told she wouldn’t even be there.
Alyson didn’t talk to my son at all but to only tell him directions but zero friendliness towards him. When she washed his hair it was so quick that I wondered if she actually used shampoo, which was supposed to be included. She just quickly ran through something that should have been special for him. Then she asked him if he wanted a massage so he said yes & it was probably 30-40 seconds so hardly anything. I could tell parts were super short because she was having to work harder to get it to lay flat with product but I was hoping it wasn’t too bad. After we left I noticed how it was super short all over the top & front and I knew it wasn’t good but I didn’t say anything to her because there was nothing that could be done & I’m not confrontational. The next morning it was SO bad, sticking straight up & I could hardly get it down with pomade & it looked terrible. It was not only cut way too short but I could see that she just cut all over the place. It’s so embarrassing to him that he has worn a hat everyday since and kids have made fun of it. She knew his school pictures were that upcoming Monday & they turned out bad so he will have to do retake day. I’m shocked that a lady at Super Cuts knew how his hair should be cut more than a “senior barber” at Hudson Hawk, one of the most expensive barbers in Springfield. I have tried to message them through FB, commented on their newest post about my messages, emailed through their website form, & messaged through Instagram & no one has contacted me. All I want is for someone at a different location to trim it up to where it doesn’t look like a 5 year old cut all his hair off. I will not go back to the Magers Crossing location. Btw, she looked very unprofessional too with her hair up in a messy bun & looked like she must have had a bad night. The pics below are his haircut the morning after the cut & one is of her...
Read moreApproximately six weeks ago, I visited Hudson Hawk for a straight razor cut. The environment was impeccably clean, and the staff were courteous and welcoming—setting a strong and positive tone at the outset of my visit.
However, the service itself did not fully align with my expectations. This marked my third attempt across different Hudson Hawk locations to receive a straight razor cut, and unfortunately, the outcome has consistently fallen short. It appears that this particular service may not be a routine offering or core focus, as the attention to detail and overall execution lacked the precision traditionally associated with this technique. Upon closer inspection at home, I noticed several uneven areas—issues I would typically address myself when cutting my own hair.
I sought out professional service for both convenience and to support a local business. While I fully recognize and respect the value of skilled labor—and have no objection to the $60 price point when paired with high-quality service—the overall experience did not reflect that standard on this occasion. The appointment lasted roughly 20 minutes, and unfortunately, the results did not demonstrate the level of craftsmanship I anticipated. Nonetheless, I chose to leave a $20 tip as a gesture of respect for the stylist’s time and effort.
The shoulder massage offered at the conclusion of the service, administered via a handheld vibrating device, felt more perfunctory than luxurious. A more refined or thoughtfully curated touch in this area could significantly enhance the client experience and better support the premium positioning of the brand.
Additionally, I encountered a limitation when attempting to pay with cash, as it was not accepted. While I understand that many businesses have transitioned to digital-only transactions, offering clients the option to pay or tip in cash could be a welcome flexibility for those who still prefer traditional methods.
In summary, while the team was professional and the setting well-maintained, I believe there is meaningful opportunity to deepen expertise in traditional grooming services such as straight razor cuts. It’s possible that the team excels more readily in modern haircutting techniques, which may align more closely with the needs of their broader clientele.
I genuinely wish Hudson Hawk continued growth and success. With greater emphasis on developing classic barbering skills, the business has the potential to distinguish itself as a standout destination for both contemporary and timeless...
