Man this place could be really good, but my family's experience was NOT. Upon arriving we were greated by a very friend server. That was the end of the pleasantries. My wife asked about a draft cider. The server told her about everything but what she asked about. She had to ask the same question several times to get the server to understand she was inquiring about a cider and not all of the other beers. When the server finally returned with the one drink that was ordered, we placed an order for the poutine as an app. Terrible mistake. It had tomatoes which were not disclosed on the menu. We had to chase the server down to address the issue. He asked us to just "pick around them" that's not how it works with an allergy and if we are going to spend $15+ on an app I would expect it to be prepared as the menu describes or if it isn't, replaced as requested. We knew it was going to be an even worse experience if we decided to order entrees there. We had spent an unacceptable amount of time waiting on one drink and an unacceptable app. So we requested to pay and leave. The best part about the visit was that upon leaving we tried a pizza place just down the street close to the river that was GREAT! We found a new spot to enjoys again and our night...
Read moreUpdated 3/16/2024 We came the day before St Patrick's Day. It was quite busy. Ordered the Rubin and chicken Boxtys. Also ordered fish tacos. The fish tacos were not good. They were very dry and hard and the guacamole on top was old (black/brown). The boxtys were good, also they were large but was what I expected. I thought we'd get something more pancake like and instead the boxty is more like a thin crepe and it wraps your stuffings. So in this case we got a Rubin so there was corned beef, sauerkraut, and dressing. It is a rather large single item for a meal but no sides. Typically you get sides with a meal that costs 22+ dollars. I still think the Boxtys both were really tasty but very expensive.
Took two stars off food and one off overall because of the high price and no sides option for a 22+ dollar meal. The tacos being really bad.
Original review: This place is great. They serve authentic Irish cuisine. There are Irish meals here (like a boxty) that I've never had anywhere else.
On Fridays they have unlimited fish and chips that are amazing!
The atmosphere there has always been positive and the decor inside is really fun. Their food is getting pricey but has always been amazing....

Settled in the heart of downtown Saint Charles, this place is a beacon of light, friendship, and joy for all who step through its doors.
The atmosphere is fantastic, and the decor all hearkens back to home and hearth for any and all who call the good Emerald Isle home. All of the wall decorations, even the ones in the bathrooms ( at least the men's room), will sail ones heart away to that blessed place.
Now, as for the food, it's a fair treat and make no mistake. Everything is made in-house and served up fresh and delicious. Whether it's the Shepherds Pie, Cheese Curds, or the to die for Chocolate Mousse, there's something to satisfy everyone's taste buds, make no mistake.
And as for the brews, while I've yet to sample anything other than a good glass of Guinness and a cider, every time I've stopped round, I see drinks of all kinds flowing from bottle and pump handle.
So whether you're in the mood for a pint or two, a quick bite or a long spell amongst pleasant company, make a point to visit McNally's. You'll feel...
