We visited Gia Mia a couple of weeks ago. My girlfriend saw Gia Mia and thought it would make for a fun date night.
What caught her eye was the outdoor dining Bubbles, or Igloos as they called them. They are clear plastic bubble with with a forced air heating system to keep them warm. On the night we were there the outside temp was ten degrees, but inside the bubble/igloo (An Bubloo, Igble?) it was in the 60's. It was still chilly, but it was easy to keep comfortable.
We had reservations, but had to wait because we wanted one of the igloos, which was what we reserved. This isn't the restaurant's fault, patrons where enjoying the bubbles so much they where hanging around for extended periods of time. We were allowed to wait indoors until they where able to seat us. They did enforce social distancing (hopefully that tid bit will not age well in a couple of years).
For a starter we ordered the Charred Cauliflower. It was delicious, great flavor. I love cauliflower, and combination of Cauliflower and olives made me wish we had ordered a second one. For main courses I had the Chicken Parmesan. This was by far one of the best Chicken Parmesan's I've ever had, it was cooked perfectly with a good breading and sauce. It was served over linguini fini... which I would go back just for an order of that by itself. Everything about this dish was delectable. My girlfriend wanted the Meatballs al Forno. She thoroughly enjoyed them, and let me try a bite. Just llike everything else, delicious. For desert we had the Ricotta Cheesecake. Honestly we shared a piece. Which did result in some fork dueling to get more than the other. It was decadent, one of the best cheesecakes I've had.
Overall It was a great experience. Our service was good. There was some slowness, but looking at the environmental issues, it's understandable. It was cold, we're outside in a bubble, it...
Read moreGia Mia is a Italian restaurant chain. We have been to their other location in Elmhurst and decided to try the St. Charles one now.
This place can get busy so it is recommended to call and make reservations before going here. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Pet owners can bring their pets to the outdoor seating.
The restaurant is very neat and clean following most of the Covid guidelines, except for sanitizing outdoor seating between guests. All staff were wearing masks at all times.
The service was very friendly. Our server, Austin, was good and kept checking if everything was good.
We ordered kids ravioli which was big ravioli pieces stuffed with cheese. It was a hit with kids and adults. We tried multiple pizzas such as Pear & Onion, BBQ Pie, and the Rocketman. All pizza were good but BBQ Pie with chicken was our favorite with good chunk of chicken pieces and right amount of BBQ sauce. For those who like fruits on their pizza, the Pear & Onion is the right mix. Their Shrimp Capellini is really good but the key is to eat it hot as soon as it comes from the kitchen. We were sitting out so it got a little cold and lost the same fresh taste.
Monday's they have half off pizza. Best way to get more for less. They also give 10% off to teachers, so just show your teacher ID when asking for your check and they will adjust your bill accordingly. They also have the option to scan and pay which is very convenient and safe. Just scan the QR code on the check, add tip and credit card number, and pay.
Overall a great family experience and a must visit when in the...
Read moreThe food here is awesome, the service here is usually great. Tonight though, our server carleigh was exceptionally horrible. It started out fine even though I could easily tell she had been drinking for what seemed like the entire night based on the fact that when she was looking at you, she was moreso looking through you. That, and the fact that she had to pause every few seconds to remember what she was just saying. All of that taken into account, my partner and I laughed it off. When I noticed both serving plates on the table were dirty, I politely let her know “hey, I understand this happens, but these plates are dirty. Do you mind if we replace them?” ……she then proceeded to pick up the plates and say “how are they dirty”
Hahahaha okay After that she probably saw our table two last times, one being for the check. She then proceeded to have us waiting for 6-7 minutes for her to come BACK and grab the card from us —so her busser had come by and done it for her. When she finally came to grab the check, she literally non-verbally signaled for the card with her hands in the air and finally goes “the card?”
Look- if you’re going to drink on the job, make sure you’re a functioning, kind...
