Sabroso is an unassuming gem, off the beaten path in the middle of St. Ann, across from northwest plaza. Upon arriving, I was swiftly greeted by friendly staff, who promptly seated me, and took my drink order. I ordered a pineapple aguas frescas, not too sweet and it was quite the treat, with strong pineapple forward flavor. The waitress, who was also the owner’s daughter, was very accommodating, pleasantly kind, very patient, and also understanding of my unique requests, she even struck up a conversation about sauces with me, when she saw I brought a personal favorite hot sauce. I also observed her going above and beyond to accommodate the request of a table across from me, where the patrons were struggling to convey exactly what they were looking for in their meal. I ordered birria nachos as a starter, which was genuinely mouthwateringly good, every bite I had was rich in flavor and spice, and had me excited for the next, additionally some delicious verde salsa and red pepper salsa was provided to add some extra character to the plate where desired. I also ordered a bean and cheese burrito, quesabirria, and enchiladas de mole. The burrito had some of the most flavorful and well seasoned black beans I’ve had. The consome provided with the quesabirria was delicious, and soaked into the quesabirria perfectly, I also ordered a side of the house made mole, which I added to the quesabirria for some extra oomph, letting the quesabirria melt in my mouth, I was overwhelmed with the wonderful seasoning and flavors. The enchiladas de mole came smothered in their house made mole and queso blanco, you get your choice of meat with the enchiladas, I ordered birria with the enchiladas as well, which really paired perfectly with the mole and queso. Overall my experience at Sabroso was wonderfully memorable and I’d recommend anyone looking for a memorable experience and meal visit. The prices are quite affordable as well, especially for the superb quality, I honestly wish I could eat...
Read moreThis place is legit. 💯❤️💯 I found this place while searching for food near me. I noticed the pictures looked 🔥🔥 so my husband and I had to give them a try. When we ordered, we were greeted by the head chef Miguel who went over some of the menu items with us. He was phenomenal, and very knowledgeable about each item. This man knows how to cook, and he takes such great pride in his food. He's mindful of the spice level, and even without the heat -- the mixture of flavors absolutely deliver. This was definitely one of the best restaurant experiences we've had in a while. The authentic flavors were refreshing. Everything was made from scratch -- from the sauces to the steaming hot tortillas. It's places like this that absolutely dominate and put El Maguey, Dos Primos and other chains (sadly, even a lot of other Mom and Pop) restaurants to shame -- there's no comparison. I especially loved the tomato salsa with the Cochinita taco. The Quesabirria Consumé could have used a little more salt, but it was still amazing. We also tried the Enchiladas De Mole, and the chefs special Chicken Tinga Machete. The Queso Fundito is a must. (Cheese, chorizo, bell peppers, poblano peppers and corn melted in a skillet and cooked to finish with a crispy bottom. Served with warm tortillas). 😘👌🏼
It's so hard to find places that not only serve delicious food, but to be able to speak with the chef who creates these wonderful meals and hear the passion in their voices -- that makes the experience...
Read moreWow. We've been regulars at a local chain Tex-Mex restaurant, and I saw that Sabroso was listed in the STL Magazine "Best Restaurants" list, so we had to try it - especially since we only live a mile away. You might miss the location if you're not familiar, as it's not right next to the street, but please make the drive to try this place. The decor is nothing fancy, but you won't care after you take your first bite. We noticed a lot of to-go orders heading out the door, too.
Our group got the asada burrito, pork burrito, fish tacos, and vaquero. Our five year old got a side of chicken and black beans. It was all delicious, perfectly cooked, and had amazing flavor. I was a little sad they didn't have refried pinto beans, as I don't really care for black beans, but when I tried the refried black beans in my burrito, holy cow, they were great! The cooks at Sabroso work magic with their food, and the flavor of those beans mixed perfectly with the steak and rice. The chips could use some salt, but otherwise, we were all very happy with our meals. We've found our new favorite...
