Long post, but needed.
My boyfriend and I were couch shopping yesterday. First, we stopped at Bob's discount furniture. Was immediately spoken to and guided by the same person while we shopped. She did help others while we wandered, however made a point to stay visible throughout. Answered all questions knowledgeable and was an absolute delight. We walked out torn between two options.
With value city being right next door, it would be silly for us not to check out. Literally right before we walked in the door, I told my bf 'if we find something we like in here the determining factor will literally be the level of service.' We walk in and a woman greeted us but she was already helping a family. No big deal, totally understandable. We immediately see a loveseat with a bunch of bells and whistles and sit in it. This thing was crazy, heated and cooling seats, power charging, Bluetooth radio in middle console, massager. Now we definitely don't need all that, but we both have not great backs and when we found out it had lumbar massaging, we began to seriously consider it.
We sat there tinkering with it for at least 20 minutes; not a sole came over to speak to, acknowledge, or help us. Could we have been swayed by an eager sales person? Maybe. Guess we will never know.
We continue on walking around, trying out couches, deliberating. After about 20 more minutes of no one acknowledging us we flag a different woman down and ask her whether there are other couches with the power lumbar support bc we both have bad backs. With visible disinterest, she takes us over to a set that has it and we sit and ask a few questions. She literally then says lmk if you need anything else, doesn't give us her name, then walks away from us never to be seen again, lol.
My bf goes to the bathroom and then the lady we saw when we first walked in approaches me and we begin talking about selections. I tell her about the couch in the front and our need for lumbar support. We talk about that for awhile, then she starts going really hard about financing and even asks if I want her to see if I qualify without even really talking about a definite set we were in love with. It was giving 'I know you can't afford this, but let's see what you qualify for anyways'
Needless to say, today I went in to bobs and got the set we decided on. Cash. Mind you, the ONE loveseat at vc was nearly double the set I just bought at bobs today. With the right about of salesmanship, we would've pulled the trigger. We were shopping for comfort, not necessarily price.
My credit score is excellent and I make great money. We walked in there with Sunday errand running clothes and had just washed both of our cars. Were we judged by everyone in value city bc of our appearance? Maybe. Were we judged bc we are way older than we look? Possibly.
Either way, people don't furniture shop for fun, when they walk in the door, they are almost certainly wanting to buy something. You can't look at a person and tell what they are able to purchase. Bobs seems to know that, value city certainly does not. Do better if you want to make some money. Don't judge. Your attitude could turn the tide for...

This post is directed to online sales in partnership with this store, but overall this will be the 1st and last time that I buy from VCF. Purchased 2 couches from them at the end of Nov, 2024. Their arrival if delivered wouldn't have been until mid January of 2025 so we opted to pick one up to get it sooner.
Picked up the love seat and upon opening the right side recliner was broken. Called the store and they wanted us to bring it back. Let's just say that was not an option for us just getting it home and set up, just to take it back apart to return and wait for another one... Finally after going around the store and working with the online customer service reps they were able to get a service tech out to see what the issue was. A full part was broken, said they would get one ordered and in 4-6weeks it would be replaced. After 6weeks still nothing. Called this store and finally got the service and part fixed.
Now we are already at the end of January and our 3 piece couch gets delayed and few days due to weather. Understandable, but then before the pushed back date it gets pushed back again an entire month. Called customer service about why the length of delay this time and they helped get it changed to the following week. Now once this couch was delivered AGAIN a reclining section wasn't working. STILL isn't working and am waiting on a replacement couch, but now the original date of exchange was for 2/19, now pushed back until 3/6. This is absolutely the worst customer service and 100% defective items received from...
Read moreI was lucky enough after going to two stores and talking to five people in three months to finally meet this young lady named Morgan. She’s a manager I found out and I was having problems finding people who were nice just nice. I don’t know everybody wasn’t warm and snuggly like I thought they should be. I guess I’m from the south and we hug we don’t shake hands you know. This young lady I met over the phone she offered to help me. She stayed until 731 night. They close at seven tried to help me get everything together and get the delivery right and then there was problems with that and she fixed it. She’s just an amazing young woman and I would like to give her credit for that because A I asked her point blank, you know, do you make any money off of this being manager and she said no but my store gets the credit and that’s just fine and I couldn’t believe it. She was not greedy. She was not sad about that. She was just as happy as she could be that she could spend that time helping me instead of passing me off to somebody else and doing her work , she took care of me absolutely five stars out of five stars. You keep up the good work Morgan you will go far and whatever you choose to do. I hope you stay in furniture sales because you seem to absolutely have a knack for it and they would be crazy to ever let you Get away. I have always said if I can complain about somebody I can certainly pet someone on the back when they do an exceptional job. Keep up...
