I understand the raising of prices because a lot of places have had to. But when your prices go up and the quality of food goes down that I can’t support. The last time I went into this restaurant I ordered the same thing I always get, Ismael special. It’s basically chicken, shrimp, rice and cheese. When it came out it didn’t have any shrimp on it so I brought it to the bartenders attention and he said it’s not supposed to. I asked for a menu and he dropped it off and walked away. By the time he came back and I pointed out the description in the menu I was already halfway done with my meal. I told him to not worry about bringing the shrimp now since I’m almost done and just discount what he thinks the cost of the shrimp would’ve been. I had about 1/4 of it left when he brought out the shrimp, the shrimp that I had to convince him I was missing and I was almost done eating anyways, needless to say I didn’t use the shrimp. Last night 12/13/24 we ordered takeout and I got my usual again. This time I did receive the shrimp but it tasted off and the chicken was extremely overcooked and dry. So like I said, I don’t mind paying higher prices when the quality is there but unfortunately I will not be patronizing this establishment anymore. On top of that their sodas are $4.99 which is double anywhere else in town and even pricier than upscale...
Read moreDespite the negative reviews (undeserved) this is still the best place to eat in St. Johns. They serve genuine, affordable, high quality Mexican food. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The walls are hand painted, and the tables and chairs are hand carved. The waiters are great at their jobs, and most of them stick around for many years. Almost all of them speak Spanish and they manage to carry several hot plates at one time (something I will never be able to do). They're also open until 10:45pm, so I always have a place to go for dinner, even when I lose track of the time and want to go out late at night.
Other things worth mentioning: You get free chips, salsa, and bean dip. It's pretty good. It's not usually crowded, you get free desert for your birthday (I've spent many of them here), and I've NEVER gotten food poisoning here. Neither has my family, and we come here often. If you don't like Mexican food, maybe you should just stick to Applebees.
5 stars. Has always been and still is the best...
Read moreFirst, friendly service earned the star I have the review. Our (female) server was friendly and attentive. However, others were grumpy looking, disheveled, and didn't look like they wanted to be there. 2nd, hot day and AC was off on the bar side of the restaurant. They said, "Yeah it might be warm over here, but I just got here so I don't know what's going on." Well, the door was propped open and she could have been inquisitive and asked mgmt about it, or mgmt could have let her know. We asked to move. They moved us to what they called the "middle" of the restaurant and it was much better. 3rd, restaurant was dirty. This place has not been deep cleaned recently. Table had a film over it that needed to be scraped off. Bathrooms were ok, but less than clean. Needs air fresheners. Fixtures were old. 4th and last, food was ok, not good or great. Fiesta Charra in DeWitt (close by) is much, much better. It is clean and fast and worth the price. Overall, not...
