A nice hidden gem of a ice cream shop. Its small quaint and homey neighborhood location. With very friendly employees and a down to earth old fashioned decor. It's also very pet friendly with treats and items for the doggy lovers out there.
The ice cream selection isn't that expansive but for what they have, is all quite good and homemade. Portion sizes are also quite big. As I had gotten a sundae with a generous topping of whip cream, nuts and ice cream. Prices for shakes and ice are extremely cheap for specialty ice cream. With scoops only being $4 and Shakes at $7. You won't find that pricing in many places. They also have quite an amazing selection of coffees I need to try next time.
The decor itself is small with about 6 to 8 seats. It wasn't particularly bust when I went on Sunday so service was pretty prompt. They are happy to let you try the flavors to see whatever you'd like. Street parking is quite plentiful and free so that's not an issue. If you are handicapped, there is a 2 step stoop in front but I'm pretty sure they will be accommodating in assisting you. There is also a points system that seems fairly generous...
Read moreThis place continues to impress me each time I stop in. When people talk about the best ice cream in STL, names like Clementine’s and Jeni’s typically come up. Sweet Em’s is 100% a hidden gem that belongs at the top with these other ice cream places.
Sweet Em’s is a bit of a hole-in-the-wall with a pretty small selection of different flavors of ice cream. But don’t let this fool you: Sweet Em’s is home to some truly sweet ice cream.
The first time I stopped in, I had a s’mores ice cream cone and it was legitimately one of the best ice cream cones I’ve ever had. The second time, I got their blueberry waffle cone ice cream cup and a ShakeShot with the Pirate’s Bounty ice cream (both pictured below). Both of these treats I had were excellent, and if you love coffee and sweets like me, I think the ShakeShot is a great choice at Sweet Em’s.

Read moreWe have been getting ice cream from Sweet Em's for awhile now and it is always great. We decided to try out breakfast and went with all vegetarian options--burrito, bowl, and the pancake sandwich. Everything about them was great except the veggie burger they added, for some reason they use an Asian veggie burger as their vegetarian option. There are asian spices, corn, green onions, edamame, etc. By itself, a great veggie burger we've had many times, but in a breakfast sandwich it is an odd choice. Given all the other vegetarian options, including a plain burger or literally a sausage patty, this was unexpected and changed the whole "breakfast" meal into something else. Having said that, all of the parts of the meal were great, but the Asian veggie patty was not the right choice. Eating a cinnamon pancake sandwich dipped in maple syrup with corn and edamame was odd.
I don't know if they rotate veggie patty options, but maybe call and ask...
