I had very high hopes coming into Terror Taco today with my friend. I've been reccomended to go time and time again.
Atmosphere was very nice and painted an accurate picture of what to expect when you arrive. Alternative/Gothic decor and music. The staff were extremely friendly and we both felt very welcomed there.
The prices here are very high for TexMex food, but it can be only somewhat understandable due to being an all vegan restaurant and with the price hikes on food. Around $4.50 for one taco.
Sadly, the flavors were not there. I ordered the Deathwish (off menu item) and the Hells Cowboy (forgive me if I forgot the proper name, it's BBQ flavored). My friend ordered the nachos. One of the three gluten free options available (more to tell about this later...)
The Cowboy was juicy and the texture of the saitan was very nice, but lacked spices and the BBQ sauce overpowered everything else and was very very sweet. Lots of corn syrup.
The Deathwish is an off menu taco that is popular amongst my friends for being the spiciest taco in the restaurant. It's heat factor contains pablano peppers, jalapenos, and scotch bonnets. It sells at a high price of $7.50 for one taco! Most upsettingly, I'm fairly certain that they forgot to add the scotch bonnets because the bbq taco was spicier. No sweat, no heat, no gain. I was very excited for the endorphins, but it was not mean't to be.
Lastly, my gluten intolerant friend ordered the nachos. Like stated before, it is supposedly one of the gluten free options. However, after eating they experienced painful bloating and I learned from another gluten allergic friend later you have to order the nachos without the vegan cheese(???) because the cheese has gluten. We were both incredibly upset at this. Asides from the allergic reaction, there wasn't much flavor. The beans were dry, there wasn't much lettuce or onion, and the chips most of all tasted like cardboard and had an off greyish/brown color. Almost as if they were made from a mix of corn and flaxseed. They were sturdy though and did not get soggy thankfully.
All together, we were both very disappointed and I'm a tad angry I spent $23 on two lackluster tacos and a margarita on ice. I'm especially mad that the Deathwish taco didn't have any heat whatsoever. I really hate writing bad reviews as a food worker myself, but I really gotta scream this out. If there's a next time, I hope it's better and best wishes to the staff. It's sad it was such a...
Read moreTerror Tacos stands as an extraordinary culinary anomaly and gastronomic paradox in St. Louis, Missouri - its name reflecting both delicious dread and delicious reality! Not just any ordinary taqueria; Terror Tacos is where vegans and horror enthusiasts meet; where the flavors of Mexico come together with Lovecraftian horror to produce tantalizing taste sensations!
As soon as I stepped through the threshold of this establishment, I was met by an atmosphere that could only be described as delightful darkness. Walls cloaked in shadow echoed with heavy metal melodies while silent horror movies flickered at random corners. Decor consisted of macabre gothic frames housing rock and metal icons pulsing with energy that was both unsettling and tantalizing.
My order consisted of Basic Witches with bean and cheese roll-ups as a side. While its appearance was simplistic, each bite revealed complex flavors reminiscent of an elaborate orchestra of taste, leaving me craving more with each sip of witchy goodness and chew on roll-ups with creamy beans and delicious cheese for a comforting relief from all that complexity!
As a pescetarian, I found comfort knowing that Terror Tacos met all my dietary requirements without compromising flavor or variety. Their offerings provided an enjoyable alternative to my typical fare: an oasis of hope in an ocean of carnivorous food choices.

Read moreMy first experience with this restaurant was via Uber eats. I have not personally stepped foot into the restaurant but my next experience will be an in-store experience. I ordered the Hatch Slinging Slatcher Burrito and boy was it spicy. It was good and it is a HUGE burrito but a little too spicy for me. Also, the only thing I felt that was missing for me was sour cream (vegan sour cream if that is a thing) and maybe still a nice salsa on top. I am not vegan but the food was good! I heard about this place from my store Manager. Again this is a vegan restaurant and you definitely do not need to be vegan to enjoy good food! Also, I want my next experience to be inside the restaurant because I would like to see the decor that I have heard about and also I want to try those alcoholic beverages and next time I want to try a non-spicy dish. Again, you definitely get your money's worth. Good food!
UPDATE:
I adding to review because on Tuesday, December 3rd, I ordered again. I did the lunch special and ordered the Texas BBQ massacre and I think the second taco was the Buffalo Chicken. I also ordered the soft taco instead of the hard taco shells. These tacos were insanely delicious!!!!!!!!!!! The BBQ sauce on the Texas Massacre was undescribable! The Buffalo Chicken taco flavors were extraordinary. You must try these tacos! I will be ordering again in a week or so but I will be coming...
