GUESS WHO’S BACK, STL?
After nearly three years away, the team behind Pho Grand is back—with a new name, the same iconic flavors, and the familiar faces that made this South Grand staple so beloved. Welcome to Grand Bistro Vietnamese Restaurant!
From 1989 to 2022, Pho Grand wasn’t just a restaurant—it was a home away from home (who remembers them in the little space just north of their current home?). Now, it returns as Grand Bistro with Tami and Michael Trinh still ever-present, and their son Andrew stepping in to lead the next generation. After years working alongside his parents—and mixing up serious cocktail magic at The Golden Hoosier—he’s now bringing fresh energy and flavor to all the things: classic dishes, new cocktails, and the whole vibe.
And yes, you’ll still see Tami’s brother, Anh Tuan, whose familiar face so many customers came to love. The awnings still say Pho Grand (for now), but new ones are coming soon. “They still have to make them lol,” as Tami put it.
I was lucky enough to be one of just four people Tami personally told about the reopening, and I was honored to be there on Opening Day—Wednesday—in full support. It was pure joy to watch the space fill up for dinner—tables buzzing, familiar servers, and longtime regulars walking in with big smiles. Some folks even said they thought the reopening was an April Fools’ joke. Nope! This is real. Grand Bistro is open, and it’s everything you’ve been waiting for.
Yes, 18.01 Bo Luc Lac—the shaking beef dish that dreams are made of—is BACK and still the best in town. And 21.10 Cari Ca—crispy fried tilapia served with rice, vegetables, and simmered in a fragrant coconut milk curry sauce—deserves its own fan club. Honestly, I’m fighting to be president of both. Add the spring and egg rolls, and you’re in comfort food heaven.
No phone line or website yet—but trust, they’re open and thriving.
Hurry! Run—don’t walk—to 3195 S. Grand Blvd. Monday, Wednesday & Thursday: 11 AM – 9 PM Friday & Saturday: 11 AM – 10 PM Closed Tuesdays—taco time elsewhere!
Same location. Same flavors....
Read moreThey tried to steal my purse. Went in for lunch, left my purse on the back of the chair. When I noticed about 30 minutes later, I tried calling them (their phone number DOES NOT WORK). I ended up calling Urban Matter that is a few doors down, explained that their phone number doesn’t work and if they could send someone over to see if my purse was found and to give Grand Bistro my phone number to call me, NOTHING. I called Urban Matter and they said my purse wasn’t found, still NO PHONE CALL FROM Grand Bistro to inquire where I left it, to tell me it wasn’t turned in, NOTHING. I called the tattoo shop located a few doors down to see if they would be willing to go over for me as I was certain my purse was there. I told them exactly where it was left, gave them a description, my phone number again, etc. The tattoo employee called me back and said she had my purse. Her and another employee went in, went to the exact table it was left at, looked around, questioned the staff asking where the purse was, again they said they didn’t have it. After continuously walking around and asking where the purse was, an employee all of a sudden pulled my purse from behind the bar and said “this purse” and handed it over. Grand Bistro had no intention of calling me about my purse or giving it back! I drove back and collected my purse from the tattoo shop and went back to Grand Bistro to confront the owner who was behind the bar. He basicallly laughed at me and said I could look at the camera footage, for what?! I had sent 2 businesses over because their phone number doesn’t work, they denied having my purse, they were given my phone number to call me since I was THEIR CUSTOMER AND DID NOT and they didn’t return my purse until the second business went over looking and kept asking where it was. It wasn’t until they realized they were going to keep getting questioned that they returned it. THEY ARE THIEFS. I’ve disputed my lunch charge with my cc company. I refuse for this business to keep my money when they already tried to...
Read moreThe beautiful family that set the standard for all Vietnamese cuisine in Saint Louis has done it again. Grand Bistro is in the same location as Pho Grand, a restaurant I’ve been visiting since I moved to this city in the early 90s. The new fresh update comes with an amazing bar immediately as you walk into the restaurant. And the bar signals a totally new vibe for the place. It comes complete with an amazing drinks menu all inspired drinks by the flavors of Vietnam. Wow! You will not want to miss ordering a delicious cocktail. I was greeted by Mike and Tami who were the pioneers of Pho Grand but now take back seat as their son (Andrew I believe) operates this new culinary gem. But have no fear, the menu uses the same old classic numbering from the former menu. It was like I was touring a historic Ancient temple but I knew the secret codes already based on prior history. My server (I believe Sue) was absolutely charming and she took care of our dinner needs. My husband and I ordered our favorite appetizers, both classic egg rolls and fresh spring rolls. He ordered his go to ginger tofu and I stuck with my curried beef vermicelli bowl. Oh, with every bite my youth returned. I remembered it like the last time I ate here some 3 years ago. But wait, everything had a better fresher update. It was better! Something added like some new herbs and garlic in the fish sauce perhaps? Whatever it was it was serving best dinner ever. Watching people come in, was like watching family coming back home. People would first look and then see familiar faces and hug Mike and Tami.
We will be coming back often! I missed you and I’m glad you are back serving the best Vietnamese food in this...
