I saw the high marks for this place and I had to check it out. It's close to the office and I had not heard of it so I was a bit skeptical. It did not disappoint. No question that the man running this business cares about what he does. Not necessarily about what people are going to say but about what they are going to experience in their meal. When I mentioned it was my first time here he questioned me about how I found it and then was more concerned about me knowing they were moving to a new location in a few weeks and advised that if I like the place I should make sure I find them in the new location. I got a soup and sandwich combo, and happened to be here with my mom in my lunch break because it was my birthday and she wanted to buy me lunch (this came up as we were ordering). We got our food and sat to enjoy it. It was delicious! Then came the man with two kitchen staffers and a slice of cheesecake to sing me happy Birthday!!!! Wow, I was moved. Not the kind of place I expected this at. I'm certainly coming back and telling everyone I know to check it out. The food was great, the price was reasonable and the staff cared! Beware, they will be in a new location in January. I hope this review will follow them.

From the shopping center it looks like another deli, but inside it clean, well organized and has all you need for a lunch spot. They have salads, soups, sandwiches, and pasta. Plus homemade baked goods. On the walls they have mounted articles from local newspapers, even a recognition from the City of Houston. The owner was very personable and he explained that it was their 40th anniversary this year, they also cater lunches. He explained that he’s from New Orleans and recommended the muffuletta for us to try. I decided on that plus the soup of the day, lentil soup. It came out within 7 minutes, soup piping hot and sandwich freshly made. The sesame seed bread was nicely toasted, the cheese was melty, and it was stuffed full of olive tapenade, salami and ham. The soup was loaded with veggies, lentils and a good broth. I would love to return again to try other items on their menu, it’s great finding local places to support the community.

Stopped by for a quick meal at this cute and clean little restaurant! It was my first time here and everything we ordered was so tasty. We got the pastrami and reuben sandwiches. I’m not an avid sandwich eater but I highly recommend the pastrami sandwich with honey mustard! The owner is so friendly and down to earth. He explained the different menu options and even gave us complimentary soup and cookies for being a new customer (they were delicious btw haha). They’ve been in business for 38+ years, so you know the food is good😎 I’ll be a repeat customer for sure, thanks so much!

The others reviews all mention how charismatic and friendly the owner of the restaurant is and there is a very good reason for that. Because he is! I mentioned it was my first time there and he was so helpful and his energy just lights up his face and it made me smile. He's the kind of guy that goes out of his way to lift people up.

If you're not swayed by the customer service and you're just about the food then good news. It's not only really affordable but everything is fresh and quality and prepared with care. These ingredients aren't dumped out of a can or frostbitten from the freezer. You can taste the freshness.

The bread is flaky and chewy but not tough. The grilled chicken in my sandwich was flavorful and juicy. The chicken salad had big chunks of chicken that gave it a heartiness and satisfying texture but it was creamy and seasoned with the slight crunch that makes chicken salad special. Eating it with big bites of avocado and crispy and bright romaine lettuce gave me that filled but not full feeling that I'm always wanting for my mid-day meal. Not weighed down, just sustained.

I had the fruit bowl for "dessert" even though they make a ton of sweet treats from scratch in house. I was very tempted by the cheesecakes and the cookies and the lemon bars but the fruit bowl on display looked so inviting. He was careful to make sure the pineapple was excluded because I'm allergic, and asked me what types of fruits I wanted extra of since I wasn't having the pineapple which is such a thoughtful question.

When I tell you, I have never in my life had better melon, I am being so sincere. I am 32 years old, and I have NEVER had better melon. I love fruit but I had really just accepted that I'm not big on cantaloupe and honeydew. I really enjoy the flavor but 99 times out of 100, it's been too hard and not ripe enough, not juicy enough, not flavorful or sweet enough. Usually it reminds me of cucumbers. But even less soft.

But the melon in this fruit bowl... 🥴🙌🏼 soft and sweet and full of flavor. Not overly ripe. Not mushy. Just perfect. And not only that, but this fruit bowl was just a single serving of fruit. Maybe about 1.5 to 2 cups of fruit if you dumped it into measuring cups. But still they made sure it had so much variety and quality. It had strawberries, kiwis, cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, green grapes, and purple grapes. And usually it would also have pineapple! I mean, come on! Most fruit bowls I've gotten even from "fancier" or pricier establishments have had maybe 4 or 5 varieties of fruit at most. It's just like... These folks consistently go out of their way to do extra stuff for their customers that they could totally get away with not doing and no one would have room to complain but instead of doing the least they can get away with, they do the most. That's the culture of this business.

Do yourself a favor. Build these people up. Support this local business full of people who are providing a special service, making special food, and being kind and friendly while they do it. The food is fresh, Delicious, healthy, and affordable. Read the reviews. Houston loves this...

Two things about me: 1) I am not that into healthy food. 2) I really don't like chicken.

Fresh & Savory has the BEST damn grilled chicken ever. I could (and almost do) eat it every day. The homemade balsamic vinaigrette is perfect and veggies are always super fresh, which makes it easy for me to opt for the grilled chicken salad every time I'm here. You can tell that the veggies are hand-cut rather than bough pre-cut in a bulk plastic bag.

Their chicken salad sandwich is low in complexity and high in flavor. No onion, celery, nuts or fruit in the chicken salad... which makes me wonder if they're using sorcery. Anyway... their bread is mighty tasty and never stale. It reminds me of a bolillo. I would have never thought to put my chicken salad on that type of bread, but now I don't see how I can have it any other way!

There are no other restaurants in the area that offer healthy options, so in my opinion this is the only realistic option for a work-lunch (unless you feel like eating something super heavy and fatty... then going back to work and falling asleep... and then getting fired... which would lead you into poverty and malnutrition, making you wish you had one of Fresh & Savory's garden salads).

The woman who owns the shop is super nice. She treats the customers like family, and at this rate they might as well adopt me. I look forward to trying every item on the menu... if I can get past that incredible grilled chicken.

OH WAIT! Last thing --- their menu is pretty hard to figure out because everything is all over the place. You can see their online menu and daily specials here (freshandsavoryspecials.c…). And if you want soup (which I hear is very good), you need to come early. I normally come around 1:30PM and they are...

It’s my favorite lunch spot of all time. Hands down. I come at least twice a week, I’ll skip my breakfast so I can come really hungry (the portions are large). My favorite is the Thursday/Friday special: chicken Milanese plate with the pasta, absolutely fantastic & fresh. I also love the rajas sandwich. It has grilled chicken, black beans, roasted peppers, and a ton of avocado. Lately I’ve been ordering it “chipotle style” - in a spinach wrap, with a little rice and pico de gallo. Since everything is made to order, you can customize the food any way you want for a little extra. Other standouts for me is the muffuletta which has won numerous awards, the chicken wrap & salmon wrap. But honestly everything down to a basic ham sandwich, which I get for my kids was outstanding. Seriously some of the best sandwiches you’ll ever try - and they’re only 1/2 of the menu since there’s numerous pasta options, salads, soup, and sides. That’s not to mention the owner(Adolfo) who is super friendly, the staff, and even the other regulars all create a really friendly familiar-feeling ambience. The only downside -if I had to name one- is they’re only open M-F during lunchtime hours. So you pretty much have to work in Stafford or SW Houston to have an opportunity of trying it out. But definitely give it a try if you can. I wouldn’t be surprised if they get a bib gourmand (from Michelin guide) at some point. I’m...
