Royal Guard Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Stamford

I've eaten here a few times. It's an average sized restaurant on the inside. Nothing to write home about.

There are a usually a few people working so service here is usually quick, even when they deliver.

The portion sizes are large, you can have definitely have food for 2 days. (Pro tip: if you have an air fryer you can reheat and it will taste fine)

Prices are reasonable here for the amount of food you get.

I ordered chicken and chips, tenders and fries and 2 orders of fish and chips for a small family birthday party. The fish I was told was fine, but everyone said the fries were very old and over cooked on all meals.

I had the chicken and it was dry, oily and overly breaded, which unfortunately happens too often here. I was told the chicken tenders tasted old and dry as well.

I'm not sure I will continue to order food here for myself, since for me I don't eat a lot of fish and the food hasn't really been good for me.The last 3 times, the fries have been different than they use to be and they taste very old, dry and they...

We have been going to get fish & chips here for years, we have always compared any fish & chips we get other places to Royal Guards. They had a great coating and the portions they gave were big. We don't live in Stamford anymore but when in the area look forward to the best fish & chips we know about. What a disappointment, today we were in town and looking forward to Royal Guard Fish & chips. THEY CHANGED THE COATING WE LOVED!!!! The old coating was crisp and they would even give you extra pieces of the cooked coating. Today the coating was totally different not crispy but rubbery!! I went up to the counter and asked about the coating, why was it different, I was told the company they got it from went out of business. I always thought they made the coating there. There must be a recipe for that coating. Very sad about the change,will not go back...

Grew up on Hanks Royal guard, fish, and chips. Went back a couple years ago. It was absolutely disgusting. The oil was old. The fish was black on the coating so we said never again.!! Until I read everyone’s reviews and how wonderful it looked and it was so delicious and so…… We tried again One of the little dude said it’s been there since Hank on the place was in there.
