Starkville Cafe — Restaurant in Starkville

The food is great and we have always loved the food that will never change but the service is the reason we will not be coming back. I know one review won’t change anything or taken into consideration but my last experience was awful. Our server came to the table very rudely and asked what we wanted like it was a bother for drinks and I ordered a coke and he ordered a cranberry juice and she brought it in a bottle only warm which was whatever but we asked for a cup of ice and she said ok and took our order and didn’t think twice we’ll I order chicken tender dinner and asked for a side of ranch while ordering so I didn’t have to bother when it came and he ordered and we were both out of drinks waiting for food, not once did our waitress come back. She looked at us and we tried flagging down just to get a refill and ignored us once more he was still waiting for a cup of ice from first encounter. Finally waitress comes over with food and I’m missing ranch and he was missing toast and of course again refills and we asked for it and she said ok walked away never came back once more, I had my boyfriend get up just to ask for these items once more because we are paying costumers who really wanted all we’re paying for and thirsty and she came to table and said she has multiple tables to stop asking for things she doesn’t have time for and walks away once more with absolutely nothing for us. It was extremely awful experience I wish on no one because I was extremely nice during this because maybe she was having a bad day but it was really rude and un called for. The rush at the time wasn’t terribly busy and even if so you make money or tables so wouldn’t you treat paying customers with respect for a good tip? Like I stayed food was GREAT and our other experiences were fine but after this one we can’t see ourselves coming back ever. Terrible service...

Let me reply:

First of all I never went back outside. I stayed standing inside waiting for my name to be called and I was literally standing very close to the lady sitting people. So don’t come at me with your old fashion thing she NEVER called my name period. Second of all the party that got there AFTER me was a party of 6 they sat at the table right next to the entrance on the right and it was a table for 6 not for 8 or 10 therefore that table could have been assigned to us. You really don’t know what a busy establishment is. We are from Houston Texas I invite you to visit the breakfast Klub in Houston so you can see what a really busy establishment looks like and their service is still top. So stop excusing your staff and your restaurant.

I asked for a table for 5. I waited 30 mins to be seated and never was. The lady assigning tables today 01/19/25 @11:20am was RUDE her whole attitude was just terrible. There was a party of 6 that got there AFTER I did and she went ahead and assigned a table for them but not me, when I asked her and let her know she asked for my name and walked away. I saw her notepad where my name was being left behind and she had already assigned tables for everyone else that got there after I did. I felt I was being discriminated there is no other word I can use to describe the encounter. So I decided to walk out and go...

How can one not love this place? It's Starkville and MSU tradition, and a delightful greasy spoon, to boot! Step right in to a warm, homey atmosphere and the best breakfast in town.

Although they get super busy almost every day, it's usually worth the wait. Having had both breakfast and lunch here, I can say both are quite good. The blue plate specials are solid, although the food does tend to be a bit greasy. That's just part of the charm.

Breakfast is the shining star, though. Fluffy pancakes, crispy hash browns, and eggs however you like them. Check out the biscuits - a southern classic. Be like me and get sweet tea for breakfast; it's strong and delicious. Bacon is always crispy, but if you're a sausage person...you MUST get the sausage. It's homemade, and some of the best sausage ever. Keep your eyes peeled for Starkville "celebrities" here -- I'll never forget visiting one morning when the whole girls basketball team rolled in!
