I forgot to take pictures, but in my defense... we just spent an entire weekend moving our kid in to their 3rd floor apartment and had to climb more stairs to get our eat on... we were hungry! After spending all weekend trying to get here to try the chicken sandwich that everyone said is the best... we just wanted to get home so we came for brunch on Sunday. We all just wanted breakfast so we will wait until next time to try the infamous chicken sandwich! Anyhow, back to the actual review! We got the Classic Breakfast, Croque Madame and (I got) Mississippi River Biscuit. My MS river biscuit was DELISH and their grits are perfect! I also tried the Croque and it was really good as well although I feel like it either needed to be sweeter (like offering some syrup) or with a little spice (like some warm hot sauce) to offset the goat cheese which can be sour. I didn't try the classic, because its the same ol' stuff you can get anywhere, but the plate was empty so I assume my husband enjoyed it. I didn't mind eating upstairs (AC was broken), honestly felt a little more personal. Waitress was alright, attentive but was griping about her day a little more than I would have preferred at brunch. Overall, I very much look forward to eating here again the next time...
Read moreIn my personal experience, it is hard to find a place to eat where I pay a good amount of money and say "Thank You" while always wanting to go back. Yes their prices are high, but their culinary genius is unmatched, especially in the local food. My first meal here was their burger and it is, hands down, the best burger I have tasted in Starkville, and possibly my life (Bin 612 being a nice second). The Crawfish dip will leave you begging for more. The pork-cracklin' battered catfish will please you if the coconut-battered chicken doesn't. The pairings for each dish are top-notch. The waiters and staff are amazing. There is nothing that I could think of negative to say except that I have ordered their pasta dishes and it leaves a bit to be desired (portion-wise) or at least the need of a side. If you want true culinary flavor and a fine dining experience, go here. If the food doesn't wow you, the atmosphere will. It is very nice and simple. There are no large distractions to take you from your company. Thank you Restaurant Tyler for being the saving grace...
Read moreUsually things are great here but last time was a terrible experience. My steak had no flavor, just heated up meat. When I order a steak, I don't expect to need steak sauce because the steak shouldn't need it, especially for the price I paid here. I ordered oysters and had to ask twice about them to only get them after all the other food was brought out. My father's order was supposed to include steak fries, and they didn't come with the rest of the food. Then, when he asked about them, he was brought out store-bought frozen crinkle-cut fries. When staff was asked about it, the excuse was they were out of steak fries. Instead of telling him this was the case ahead of time, they hoped he wouldn't notice the change.
We go here for brunch sometimes and are usually happy with everything, but this night we were not impressed. There were a few more issues with orders as well, but I don't remember as I am writing this a few weeks later. I will probably return, but that night's experience does not encourage me to return...
