If Whitecrest Eatery is on the "Where should we eat tonight?" list, I will be picking it. My first exposure to Whitecrest was it's regular menu. I was not only impressed with the food and how it was presented. I was also impressed with the rustic, well-thought out atmosphere. And the personalities of the servers as well as their attention to detail and intelligence of the menu items. The second visit, we experienced their Wanderlust event, in the country of Ethiopia. This area is not known for offering such a variety of cuisine, so having an Ethiopian option close by was wonderful! (I used to live near NYC and miss the variety.) On this visit, I appreciated the atmosphere even more. It was intimate and open. The staff was made up of mostly the same people and I felt like I was visiting a familiar family friend. Whitecrest Eatery - Thank you for providing such a beautiful space. I can feel the love and care you put into this place by merely walking through the door.

We headed to Stonington for the afternoon and stumbled upon this hidden gem. It’s literally hidden in unique upscale factory called the Velvet Mill that houses various small businesses like coffee shops, brewery, art work, antiques, etc. Upon arriving, we were greeted with a warm smile welcoming us and brought us to our table. We were given a quick history of the place and their offerings. We shared their fish and chips, roast beef sandwich, and panko fried flounder. All incredible flavors and beautifully plated dishes. We ended the lunch with and cardamom cinnamon bun that tasted like autumn. Warm and perfect amount of sweetness. We can’t wait to return to try their dinner menu and check out the shops. We loved our entire experience from arrival to dessert. Staff was incredible and very happy to have us and excited for us to be there. Set a date and get excited, you’re in for a great treat!

Incredible food! Don’t sleep on this place. We ordered the kale Caesar, burger and fries. ALL WERE DELICIOUS Kale Caesar - this ain’t a salad that comes in a plastic box. This is a fresh, zesty, and flavorful kale Caesar. Added a lot to our savory meal Fries - short, crispy, and tasty. They also give you horseradish which was outrageous and paired well. Burger - not your standard burger yo! Think a high end inn and out burger with straight from the cow meat. Soooo fresh The wait staff was attentive, quick, and extremely helpful with the menu. Great experience and a lovely addition to the food in Stonington CT.

This review is long overdue! A few weeks ago we traveled from Fairfield up to the casino for two nights. Desperately trying to find some decently healthy food, I luckily discovered whitecrest... my two boys and I headed there for dinner where we met Abbey and her amazing staff and had the BEST and SEED OIL free meal. The chicken cordonblue was sooooo amazing. The Brussels sprouts, everything really. Abbey gave me a loaf of sourdough to try and it was such a nice break from making my own sourdough to actually be able to enjoy a loaf without the work. I kept telling her we'd be back the next day (it was about a 30 min drive from the casino) I took some pannacotta (spelling?) to go for my sister and brother in law to try who were also staying at the casino.. one bite of it and they decided they'd come back with us the next day haha. We spent the next day exploring the velvet mill and while we sipped some beer from the brewery, we ate SOURDOUGH pizza from back door pizza (which abbey also owns) and wow. I wish I lived closer because I would venture back weekly. The pizza was so so good. We ended up BACK at whitecrest for dinner where again, everything was out of this world. Homemade cheesecake ice cream. I literally dream of it daily.

I recommended both places to my girlfriend who took her kids to mystic yesterday. They did pizza for lunch at backdoor- went to mystic aquarium and then back to whitecrest for dinner! She was impressed and told me she wishes they lived closer too. Anytime I am within an hour distance, I will be back! Hahaha. Drooling thinking about it until then. Abbey (and husband who I haven't met but wow what an amazing chef) THANK YOU 💗 for two wonderful and guilt free places for our family to eat. Hoping more places are inspired and start being seed oil free. Thank...

Update - the GM and owner reached out after we left feedback via a survey they emailed and refunded part of our meal. I really appreciate them taking that step and added a star to acknowledge it.

Original review - Good help is really hard to find. First, the food is interesting. A lot of black pepper on both the prosciutto and melon as well as the schnitzel, but still not bad. The cacio e pepe was a bit soupy. The burger was well reviewed, but the gnudi was very salty. The real issue was service. When we got there with our reservations, the table was set, a high chair in place (we mentioned it on the call), and waters were poured - really great. Things started to go downhill when my drink was the wrong cocktail, but mistakes happened. Our appetizers arrived as well as my toddlers grilled cheese, and that's when things started to unravel. It was very warm and while there are ceiling fans, they weren't helpful. At the one hour mark, the waitress came and asked if we wanted dessert, at which point we said we hadn't gotten our entrees. It took another 20 minutes to get our meal. At this point I was non stop sweating and my daughter was no longer hungry and crying. We quickly got the check, got boxes for our entrees and left. If we had gotten in and out in an hour it would have been fine. But the heat and the slow service really led to a...

A stunning disappointment. Considering how expensive and limited the menu is, a certain amount of quality is expected. This fell far from the bar. The Brussels sprouts were so over cooked they were nothing but black had it not been for the smothering of buffalo sauce they would have been completely inedible. The schnitzel dish I got was bland aside from the over powering flavor of roasted red peppers that clearly came from a can. The other three meals my party had were all very basic I wouldn't say they were bad but when your spending $50 a person you should be getting some very high quality food which we certainly did not. Once again I reiterate there is a very limited menu here and to have 4 out of 8 of your dishes be either bad or mundane is simply unexpectable. Now I could stop here and feel comfortable with my 1 star review but it would be amiss to leave out the incredibly slow service we received which in spite of the fact that I don't know who my sever was as every server in the restaurant visited our table at least twice. We had a couple sit down next to us after we had order our appetizers they were nearly done with their meals when we got...
