The Back Door Kitchen & Pizzeria — Restaurant in Stonington

I really, really wish I could review this place differently. It seems like an adorable local pizza shop and ingredients tasted high quality, but unfortunately, I just really disliked this pizza. I’m a huge pizza lover, I’d even consider myself a pizza connoisseur— all styles.

We got three pies. One plain, two specialty. All three were underdone and floppy. Practically inedible. The edge was burned, not Napolitano style crispy bubbles, I mean a full carbon black outer ring on the bottom that tasted like charcoal, but totally underdone and floppy in the middle. the cheese was way too heavy handed for the chewy dough style, and same with toppings - just mounds of toppings that totally overpowered the pizza itself. They have the right stuff here but really need better recipes and...

Holy Toledo! This is the best pizza that I think I have ever eaten! I have worked 27 years in restaurants and eaten my weight in pizzas many times over. THIS - is something SPECIAL. My daughter and I came in, ordered a special Carnitas and an EZY CHZY pizza, as well as a Caprese Sandwich. I almost never eat the crust anywhere - I couldn't get enough of this one. Ate it for lunch that day, dinner that night, AND breakfast the next morning. Bravo for doing it right, I can't stop telling all of my friends! A+++

This pizza is worth going out of your way for. I live over 35 minutes away. I don't think I will be eating pizza anywhere...

This has been my new go to pizza spot. I drive out of my way to make the trip. Buffalo chicken pizza and Spud have been my favorites. All of the pizza and sandwiches being on sourdough is HUGE for my gluten free wife. It does normally come out on the doughy side (still great) but I now like to ask for it well done 🤌🏼.

Chicken Pesto sandwich was also very flavorful, tender, large, and reasonably priced. Staff has always been very nice. The seating area has 2 TVs, a lounge area, and large open area for kids to hang and play. Great spot...
